Anyone else feel like they're just walking through soup? Watching people going about their business, pretending that this shit isn't happening or it's "not that bad"? I'm a trained psychologist with 16 years of experience to help me "cope" and "reframe" and all that shit, and I don't even know what to do with myself half the time.

@tayfonay I feel defeated to be honest with you. Like we had our chances to "fix this" but those in the best position to do so fucked things up royally or didn't really give a fuck enough to try hard enough, and now we are just stuck hoping a bunch of old dinosaur democrats will save us while a whole generation of young democratic leaders got benched and are now completely out of the lineup to do anything meaningful to help us.

There weren't enough people in the White Rose. Luke and Leia would have been guillotined just like Sophie Scholl.

I know from experience that no matter how urgent the cause, or how much people pretend to care about it, or how much you are willing to give up, it doesn't matter because there aren't enough others.

I can’t decide which path to take: whether to jump in with donations, activism, rage phoning Congress, beating my fingers raw creating memes & toots — or crawling even farther into my self-made hermitage where I’ve huddled since April, 2020.

How much good can one old lady do against a fascist train barreling through all the stops, especially when #Democratic leaders appear as indecisive & stymied as I?

What’s the point of making myself crazy knowing every time 47 burps a new inhumane action if I (or nobody) can stop him? What good is social media doing now when we couldn’t even get out the blue vote to prevent this disaster?

I remember as a small child seeing newsreels of the liberation of Holocaust camp survivors then wondering years later how ordinary people ALLOWED those crimes.

Are we them? WTF do we do to halt what may be the inevitable?

Donating to organizations that are mounting legal challenges to the administration's doing seems like one route. I literally do not have that in me this time. Instead, I have a recognition that all my rage ultimately didn't avoid this outcome, so clearly it wasn't well-targeted.

I'm keeping my head down, my focus closer, and an eye on opportunities to do something that's actually something in the local community. Because I can't, ultimately, stop ICE in Chicago from a timezone away... But I can keep an eye on my backyard.

The Republicans and their "mandate" has turned out to be a sham.

Turns out Trump had less than 50%... our fucked up system which includes the electoral college showed him winning. However from votes cast, he had 49.8% to Harris' 48.3%

Source: The Cook Political Report

https://www.cookpolitical.com/vote-tracker/2024/electoral-college

The difference is 1.9% which I assume came from people who voted 3rd party?

Either way, he got close 50 but it sure as hell isn't a mandate from the people. We're a divided nation, almost exactly in half.
