@purplepadma I was thinking the same. Call me weirdo or whatever, but for me it is absolutely normal to live with very little access to social media. Mastodon once a month is probably my average. I’m still very well informed and well connected to my friends. Social media concept is just overrated.

@purplepadma I'm personally tickled by the word émigré. It's a bit pretentious and refers to someone leaving somewhere they grew up by choice, sometimes fleeing but not always. If you want to use a word laden with unseen layers of historical connotations going back centuries.

"Émigré is a French word that means emigrant, especially someone who leaves their country for political reasons." My political reasons being that I like human rights and social justice, actually. 😄

Rape victims, I’m sure wouldn’t mind some imaginary support. @malte If it’s a metaphor it’s a very insensitive one that comes from a place of privilege. So I’m going to call it out, the same way I call it out when people call a bad decision “an act of self harm” or a perceived minor violation “rape”. These are real issues with real victims. And I was new here once when Musk took over Twitter, and I was heartbroken at having to leave, but not once did it occur to me appropriate the identity of someone who was genuinely oppressed.
