[#]Today I skipped the inauguration and cooked for the freezer.

4 pounds of gnocchi, 2 lasagnas, eggplant parm, cacciatore and a ridiculous amount of frozen fresh pasta.

FYI you can get 50lbs of flour for less than $30. Throw that bag and all right into a Rubbermaid box.

Now as I started at 4:00 am I’m sitting down with a glass of wine and an ice pack for my wrists.

So earlier #today did a video chat with my mom while she was having lunch at her assisted living building. We do it at least once a week sharing a meal that way. Her table mates jumped into the chat, Mr G* discussing his newly diagnosed mega colon ( eeeeek ) and Ms A* her butt cleft fistula treatment.

I now know exactly how to adhere to a diet because I absolutely lost my taste for my bagel and cream cheese before I’d eaten half of it.

I think Yeats but no, we know the name of the beast and where’s the relevance? There’s always a beast isn’t there? There’s always the dance and most of the dancers are unaware. But here we are most of us too old and the rest too young to do anything but pray the next generation is stronger than we were.

[#]today home after my brother in laws memorial. He was one of my favorite people and a general all around good guy.

But we are so confused. What we thought was a heart attack ( he was a pretty big person and on a lot of meds ) was apparently suicide. So I’ll take a moment and say, no matter what face a person puts on in public there can still be a deep private pain they don’t share.

Girding my loins for Saturday. Lost someone the spouse and I loved very much and unfortunately someone we went no contact with several years ago will be there. We will be performing the avoidance pirouette to not give her the opportunity to create one of the scenes she’s so fond of.

I have this weird comfort fantasy. There’s like a giant Buddha Pillsbury dough boy kinda thing, maybe twelve feet tall. Thick thighs, juicy belly, and I just curl up on its lap and sink in like it’s a featherbed and fall asleep.

Having a proper martini (for medicinal reasons) and using a weird brace , since I dislocated my thumb and tore a few important things that make it work correctly earlier #today .

Fortunately it’s the right one as I’m predominantly left handed ambidextrous. Unfortunately my current projects are now on hold. I’ll be over here bitching up a storm .

Last minute overnight with the chaos monkey as her sitter came down with strep and her parents have a no kids gathering they’re obligated to attend.

So cooking, cleaning, three year old before our traditional Christmas Eve with friends and family. I will be getting up at 4 am to bake rugelach and prep appetizers without her help.

Took a long walk with the dog , I love a cold clear night . Also love the gift I tested out it’s a heavy knit hat with a light . Touch for on and off, brighter than a flashlight, chargeable battery, and it frees up my hands. Not much for life tech stuff but this makes me happy.

[#]Today been shopping around for homeowners insurance this week and I have questions.

They want to know how old the house is, how old the roof is and if you have deadbolts. What sort of heat ,do you have a home based business, is there a fire extinguisher. Garage or not attached or not , is there a Ring doorbell.

Pool? Trampoline? DOG? OMG what kind of dog and have they ever bitten anyone.

Know what they DON’T ask?

Is there a firearm in your home and is it secured.

Well in spite of the vaccine the spouse has pneumonia again. He’s got COPD even though he never smoked ( he ran industrial laundries, so much lint and fiber)so any bug goes straight to his lungs.

This is getting older and the reality does indeed suck.

My great great grandmother could pass in the streets. She had white skin , red hair, and blue eyes so if she was dressed for her every other Sunday off no one would know what her origins were. She. Could. Pass.

That right there is the essence of racism. When a person who emptied chamber pots and scrubbed dishes could walk the streets unbothered because they were the ‘right’ color. After her contract was up she could marry amd have children who were free citizens.

Here I am a white woman with all the privileges that title implies.

And yet my origins are no different than anyone trying to immigrate here.

My great great grandmother was an indentured servant who left Ireland because her father was involved in a scandal whereas he owed money to the wrong people for the wrong reasons. She took employment as a scullery maid in Hartford at the age of 14. The only difference between her and anyone immigrating here now is one thing.
