Just got home from the dentist - had four fillings (last filling was in 1986). How long does novacaine last?!?!?!

I'm so glad my money is going to a spa-like atmosphere 🙄 it's a ridiculous building but the only one within an hour's drive who takes any insurance.

At least I got to watch some poor fish trapped in a tank.

(Is somebody grumpy? Yes, yes they are. I'm hungry!!!!)

I am feeling so heartened to know that a wonderful teenager I knew when I worked at Simon's Rock College 20+ years ago is a Federal US District Judge who blocked Trump.

It's only been a week.

I've almost completely dissociated.

On the one hand I can't really feel anything as I keep myself informed about the current shitshow ... on the other hand ... I don't think there's another hand right now.

When I was a kid, my parents mostly punished me by taking away things that were important to me - and giving them back if I behaved in a way they approved.

I wasn't very good at performing for authority. Their plan backfired. I learned to care and do with less and less. It took years to relearn how to recognize when things were important to me and how to care.

It's back - on a national and international scale. So much abuse already in such a small period on time. We're going to see more and more taken away by our brutal patriarchal government officials - forcing us to bend to their cruel will or do without.

As a disabled elder, I depend on social security, partially subsidized medicare and housing, and snap. I am not the only one. I am prepared - to the extent I can be- for being hungry, homeless, and unwell, again.

I don't believe any of the local or state or federal agencies planned for this. I asked, regularly over the past year. No one had an answer then. Now 🤷🏻‍♀️

This cannot possibly come as a surprise to anyone who has been paying even the smallest bit of attention. They told us over and over again. They published an 800+ page document outlining it all.

And marching in the streets with cute little pink hats isn't going to do a goddam thing. It didn't last time. 🙄Americans - so uselessly performative with no foundation or substance.

The people of Israel protested in unprecedented numbers and nothing changed. The palestinian people are still dying. And soon, we'll see more and more people around the world dying from the actions of the us government - including americans.

I don't know THE answer because there isn't AN answer. There's lots of small local answers from people who are willing to try new approaches -- to come in like empty cups without believing they have the answers (or any answer) -- willing to listen without jumping in or judging -- cross pollinating over generations, race, class, gender to allow something entirely new to emerge.

That's all I got right now. For the moment I am grateful to have a safe home, enough food, a loving pup, the beauty of the natural world, and you.

I have refused unethical requests by employers - a college president and a (different) college dean are the first two that spring to mind. I didn’t keep either position - international student advisor and adjunct faculty - by mutual agreement.

It is difficult to look someone in the eye and say: what you are asking is morally wrong. Not everyone has the freedom to do it (I really didn’t either, I might be smart but not always clever.)

I’ve also done the subtle slowdown and the sneaky substitution. There are all sorts of ways to be an undercover agent of change.

Holy Moly it’s COLD! Time for doubling up with gloves plus mittens and shearling lined boots. I don’t think my fingers are frostbit - but definitely frostnipped. Even #SunshineSadie couldn’t wait to get back inside.

Tomorrow morning should be the lowest (-7°F/-13°C) for this cold snap.
