My cat has decided that he will not eat his expensive medicated wet food, so I have bribed him into it by sprinkling bonito flakes on it. Today he jogged my elbow so that I upended half a bag of bonito flakes onto the cat and now my cat is covered in bonito flakes.

@evacide We have to put the younger kitties food on top of the older kitty's special food to make it smell more like food. (and rotate a ton - our older kitty is one of those picky cats!)

@evacide My cat is kind of a redneck. He doesn't like human food, except for cheese. And, I've fed him pate, wild game, and even buffalo imported from Wyoming. Just wants his .50 cent Sheba wetfood and Iams.

@praetor @evacide I call that "gas station cat food" because you can buy it almost anywhere. And my two darlings are also classless brutes when it comes to food. They hate tuna!

@evacide bonito flakes hasn’t occurred to me. Here I’ve been trying to bribe him with canned tuna when I could buy the flake version by the giant bag at the local Asian market.

We use squirts of Churu on top of the food to try to get Mr. Picky to eat the stuff he has rejected. But it always helps to have more than one plan.

@evacide that's a good idea. My old medicated cat has 1000% emotional appetite but only about 40% actual appetite, maybe the flakes will get more food in.

It's possible we have the same cat, judging by the picture and the description.

@evacide are you spying on my house?
Lol. I'm kidding but I can relate.
Cat 1 has medicated wet cat food. For diabetes. Expensive AF. He's too skinny but diabetes is under control with just the food.
He hates it.
Cat 2 has expensive dry cat food. Diet because she's fat.
She hates it.
But she loves his diabetic cat food.
And, of course, he loves her diet cat food.
We feed them in separate rooms. When given the chance they try to sneak to the other's food.
Every day. Twice a day.

@evacide and of course they demand to be fed the food they don't want, take a look at it and try to escape and get the other's food.
Twice a day.

@evacide At a pet store here on O’ahu they sell something called “Fur-ikake” which is like shredded bits of organ meats to jazz up basic pet food. I kinda want to buy some for my mom’s super picky Pomeranian (mostly because I dig the product’s name). Maybe I’ll just get her some bonito flakes instead!

@evacide Alex loves to jog my hand while I'm putting wet food in his and his siblings' bowls.
Now the little twerp has to be fed special food, complete with extra powder, so he gets to watch the other two dig in, then gets picked up and carried to a separate room until he's finished his own stuff. He's getting a bit tired of it, though he seems to like having me to himself for a while.
Might have to try that trick with bonito flakes, to ensure continued compliance. At least they can all have that.

Malik🐈⬛ likes to rob the milk transport from the kitchen to the bedroom, when I make me a cup of hot milk with honey in the evening. Being splattered with hot milk is apparently acceptable collateral damage for being able to lick it up. I now hide treats for him just before I do the actual transport.
