Reading an article in The Verge about how Google had to pull its "Dear Sydney" AI ad over backlash I noticed this: "At the heart of the issue, tech companies still struggle to read the room with regard to AI"
The the issue is not that they "fail to read the room", rather, they want to shove in AI everywhere to make us dependent on them, don't give a shit about anyone, and it's just their marketing depts (no doubt "AI powered" too) are not good enough to hide this.

Dunno I personally would rather take a few minutes extra to make a poster in Google Draw or Powerpoint than use one with this many artefacts. But yeah I think not many people care π

I'm starting to think that once the AI thing is able to produce output as clean and good as a human's on these tasks, it will probably be more expensive than a human, thus kind of defeating the purpose π
IMO it would be nicer to have the machines figuring out difficult things like new medicines and better materials than making posters, and I can totally see the value in having it read all the theses in the world (nobody really does) so you can search for info in them. But not this :P π€·ββοΈ

My dad just bought an m1 macbook with 256 GB storage and (surely) 8 GB of RAM because it was "on massive discount" and I'm like "sure dad that's great" while internally screaming.
He plans to do video editing on the go with that. Which it is technically capable of, and he does carry a million HDDs with him all the time, but seriously wtf.
"It's very good" he told me. Yes dad I've been saying this for 4 years π«

Well, I wished I could work on something other than the infrastructure and my wish got granted. But it seems to have been granted by the Monkey's Paw from the Simpsons judging by what I'll be working on π¬

It's seriously been one week since I got the task "please find out all our users who have an avatar set" and I have not been able to get the info. Instead in the process of finding out, I uncovered (or caused) a few more bugs.
I'm starting to doubt my own sanity π«

I am starting to feel that the infrastructure in my workplace is kinda like the Weasleys' house in Harry Potter.
Mostly functional but weird and unsightly and haphazardly held together by mysterious magical means.. π΅βπ«

It's probably just a dumb name because a great many people in this place do not have a very good grasp of the English language (so they don't know what the fuck they're doing or saying), but I would be very wary of staying in a place called "The Do It Yourself Inn".
Like, what?? I can do things by myself at home, and I don't need to pay anyone π

I love the electric motorcycle I bought recently. It is fast, has a great range, and will charge from 0 to 100 in about 5 hours. (It uses more or less the same energy that an Air Conditioner would in that amount of time, about 1200W)
With full charge I can drive about 130-170 km, or go about a whole week with my usual travels around the neighbourhood and random errands.
I think I love it as much as the dishwasher and my current computer.

This little dog regularly lounges near the entrance to my room and leaves her toy at the door. She also waves her tail a little when she sees me. But she gets very snappy if I try to pet her π

Finally the money has been returned, about 22 days after it should have shown up had Wise not changed my account details without any warning or even any sort of information, and now the payout has been re-sent to my better bankβs account (fuck Wise!).
Estimate says I might receive it on Tuesday. Fingers crossed it will show up by then. π€
(Iβm glad Iβm not most of my Indo friends, whose livelihoods might be put in jeopardy for a thing like this..)

I was dreading to make that call and also due to the timezones it had to be at annoying hours for me.
Now every time I feel the dread I just remember I've done the call already, then feel calm again π, so I'm glad.

... even though they cannot see anything at the moment. π
We'll see.
Oh and no, they cannot give me the old bank account details.
I think I will screenshot all my current details, just in case someone else decides to do more "Wise" bullshit.
And yes, that Wise account will be closed as soon as this is settled. Fuck them.

Update: called Wise's old partner bank, who almost immediately transferred me to Wise phone support (an option that is normally greyed out when I want to contact them on the website π€).
The Wise support lady told me that the process goes like this:
The lady assured me that the money will bounce back...
