This weekend should be interesting to watch for tariff action on potash, a primary fertilizer. Canada controls the largest supply. Followed by... Russia and Belarus.

Is orange shitbag going to try to replace imports from Canada with Russian imports?

We'll see.

finished the day up 1.43%.

There's still a lot of confusion about what and when tariffs will be applied, and no Canadian, Mexican response yet.

Markets seem pretty calm given that the US could be devoid of diesel within a few weeks. #cdnpoli

in Ontario politics, the domination by wealth is in the form of privatizing provincial assets, cuts to education, health, increasing police budgets, and handing land speculators everything they want.

Queen's Park and every municipal council is stacked with members that funded their campaigns with land speculator money. Almost zero practical housing out of it, but every city is ringed with fresh developments full of 6 bedroom homes on 1 acre lots.

Crombie:

"I'm very fiscally responsible, but I'm very socially progressive."

This is the opposite emphasis of what I want in political leadership.

Lasting social progress depends on reforming the political system to remove domination by wealthy interests.

As soon as wealth needs a distraction from the lack of economic progress, it's rug-pull time for social progress like human rights, healthcare, housing, etc.

Rather shocked that #OttawaSenators have managed to cling to 3rd in the Atlantic div for a few days as their pursuers have stumbled. Bit of a gap has opened between >=55pts and <=53pts.

Ottawa hosts league #1 Washington. Ottawa beat them on Jan 16.

It's unfortunate that the ON NDP is only available on the fediverse with a non-interactive bot presence. #onpoli

There's a lot more alignment here with progressive NDP values.

Saw some predicting the Bank of #Canada would make a huge 0.75 cut, but it was not to be. Macklem's statement was interesting "we can't fix this with monetary policy".

It's a statement he should've been making all the time. Government action, spending, and loose fiscal policy is the tool for a temporary trade crisis. Take care of people first.

Build houses. Develop internal markets and suppliers. Develop new trade. IP holiday. Burn the rich and wait for Trump to expire. Won't be that long.

More candidates registered for the #Ontario election in #nepean

Max Blair for the NDP

Alex Lewis, cop, for the PC's

Anthony Seveigny for the NOTA

Around the PC nomination, expiring MPP MacLeod smearing a muslim contender as a "sharia" proponent. Kenneth Xi, DND employee, also has failed to win the nomination.

The Nepean PC's are centered around Bell's Corners and get most of their support there among the white, poor, elderly population. Lewis involved in BC, with Rick Chiarelli.

A long day listening to presentations mostly about yet more LLM powered chatbots as the solution to every problem.

The recent developments about DeepSeek are viewed by these presenters as a strength... market options and competition for Gemini, Copilot and ChatGPT.

We'll see. LLM chatbots were being touted as solutions several years ago.

I'm not sure if the Ontario PC party have nominated a candidate yet for #Nepean. There was a kerffuffle with outgoing MPP Lisa MacLeod's bigoted smear against a contestant. Website is still all about MacLeod.

Tyler Watt is back for a 2nd attempt under the OLP.

The GPO have nominated Sheilagh McLean.

The NDP have not announced a nominee.

It seems quite odd that the PC's would be 3rd or 4th to nominate a candidate..since they called the election and it's a PC-held district.

how do you monitor and assess the quality of what the LLM & accessories are producing?

"...uh..."

Again... interesting question to direct at the conventional PM record.

They don't assess the quality for humans, so why assess it for AI?

Someone is giving a presentation about using LLMs during project estimation and planning, calling it "T2A"

I'm skeptical about it given the truly abysmal record of the project management art, which I presume is it's training basis.

On the other hand, I'm optimistic since the bar to improve on project estimation and planning is on the floor, so surpassing it should be easy.

"Ask the AI instead of the client" just popped out...🤔🤔🤔
