Watch everyone now bend over backward to justify this as some sort of forced move that Cook HAD to do.

Tim Cook, reluctantly supporting Trump, because it's the savvy move for Apple…

Tim Cook… reluctantly supporting Trump…

Tim Cook… supporting Trump…

Are we getting it yet?

Why do we keep making excuses for him?

Why do we keep making excuses for Apple?

In the same way that nobody's going to bother with Loving's upheaval when it comes to Clarence Thomas.

It's hard to distinguish the two, as wealth often results in immunity from consequences (and vice versa, sometimes), but I'd say that his certainty that He Will Never Be Hurt leads to a dismissal of the massive, overwhelming damage done to others.

@marcoarment Mark Cuban doesn't (support Trump). JB Pritzker doesn't. Melinda Gates. Soros. Reed Hastings. They do exist, but yes, they are in the minority (amongst billionaires).

I think a viable explanation is that it's a shit sandwich, that Cook is begrudgingly choosing to eat. Apple is a very (!!) import-heavy org, and tariffs can hurt them particularly harshly. Cook could be putting his own ego aside to stroke the ego of the man who will grant those much needed tariff exceptions.

Or he could simply be a Trump supporter. 🤷🏻‍♂️

@marcoarment Tim Cook is only as strong a CEO as Apple is highly-ranked on the Fortune 500. If they fall out of the top 5, he starts getting shit. Top 10, he gets pressured to retire. Top 25, he’s gone. Of course he’s going to pursue any avenue he can to retain his power.

But it’s sure a hard pivot from when he told the right-wing weirdo hedge fund guy that if he didn’t like Apple spending money on accessibility tech without a care for the “bloody ROI”, then the weirdo could “get out of this stock”.

I always thought that they were better than the others but there is just too much evidence to the contrary. Eg how they handle App Store, allowing the casino-type games just for their 30% cut, rip-off upgrade prices. Tim will stop at nothing to get the service revenue up.
