Is it that hard to believe?
Why do we think Tim Cook couldn't possibly support Trump, while all of these other billionaires support him for their own billionaire self-interests?
Why do we keep making excuses for him?
Why do we keep making excuses for Apple?

Have you considered the possibility that Tim Cook just… supports Trump?
Like so many other mega-rich CEOs?

Watch everyone now bend over backward to justify this as some sort of forced move that Cook HAD to do.
Tim Cook, reluctantly supporting Trump, because it's the savvy move for Apple…
Tim Cook… reluctantly supporting Trump…
Tim Cook… supporting Trump…
Are we getting it yet?

I'd say podcast tech "moves very slowly", but even that's generous — podcast tech hardly moves at all.
But that's a GOOD THING!
Most efforts to move podcast tech "forward" have failed due to insufficient adoption. But most would’ve meant more potential for platform lock-in and increased ad-tech and tracking possibilities, either by design or as unintended consequences.
Podcasts' technical simplicity is not a problem to be solved — it's a defense from platform vultures and ad-tech assholes.

I've never thought to try it again.
The same benefits and risks would still apply. CBR is INCREDIBLY wasteful for podcasts, but I bet lots of platforms still don't seek properly in long VBR MP3s.
One solution could be adding multi-enclosure-format support to the podcast ecosystem, where we offer modern clients a list of formats and let them pick more advanced ones if they support them.
But I bet ZERO big DAI platforms, and therefore zero popular podcasts, would support it.

It was still MP3, but I tried VBR encoding.
In 2016, I wrote: https://marco.org/2016/08/15/vbr-mp3-plea
ATP: https://atp.fm/182
It worked! The following year's Apple OSes (iOS 11+) implemented support for all three VBR-seek-table standards — MLLT, VBRI, and Xing/LAME-tag.
ATP: https://atp.fm/228
But when I later tried releasing ATP in VBR with all three tags, we got so many problem reports from Android users that I went back to CBR after one episode:

Yes: https://developer.apple.com/documentation/uikit/uiactivityviewcontroller/completionwithitemshandler-swift.typealias
Upon successful sharing in the system share sheet, the source app can see the bundle ID of the destination app or activity ID for iOS functions. These look like:
com.apple.UIKit.activity.CopyToPasteboard
com.apple.UIKit.activity.Mail
com.apple.UIKit.activity.Message
net.whatsapp.WhatsApp.ShareExtension
etc.
(No other data is available there, so apps cannot see e.g. WHO you shared with, as far as I know)

I disagree. We on the “broadcast” media often underestimate how many people don’t participate.
I keep stats on the most popular Overcast link-share destination apps. What do you think tops the list?
Not Facebook or X or Instagram or Snapchat.
It’s Messages, by a MILE, then mostly other private-messaging apps! The first public-social-network app is #12 on the list, averaging only 1% as many shares as Messages.
Private messaging is FAR more popular than social media.

Correction: I've said a couple times recently that App Store subscriptions can only increase by $5/year if you want people to be opted-in by default.
That's wrong! (thanks, Andrew)
See the "Increase the price of an auto-renewable subscription" heading here:
https://developer.apple.com/help/app-store-connect/manage-subscriptions/manage-pricing-for-auto-renewable-subscriptions
The limit is the greater of +$5 or +50% per period for NON-ANNUAL subscriptions (like weekly or monthly).
For annuals, the limit is the greater of +$50/year or +50%.
(My IAP is sticking with $15 for now, though.)

But that bar never stops serving, and more people just keep coming in the door.
Just wait until 4 AM.

I've been around this block a few times.
I have NEVER seen any kind of cross-posting work well.
Anyone who thinks it's working for you: it's not.
Cross-posting spews your messages into contexts they're not optimized for and communities that you're not really engaging with.
You get out of a social network what you put into it. If you're not really getting to know each place and tailoring your engagement to it, you're not really there, and it shows.
