@deevybee Thank you for sharing all this illuminating information. As a long-time non-scientific admirer of the Royal Society, I hope they clean up the contamination soon.

@deevybee it's far more than a blip to me, Dorothy. I am in awe, even knowing you to be a scientist with high values and utter integrity. It would be so easy to look the other way like all the other FRSs. Obviously they should dump him and ask you to return!

@deevybee Can't have been an easy thing to do. I am in massive admiration of your principled stand.
Nice one!

@deevybee Thank you for sharing this.
Your decision to resign must have been difficult. Speaking truth to power is an inspiration and an example for many (certainly for me) this is all too often missing. Thank you.

@deevybee wow, that is quite the bombshell. I hope it will make a positive impact. I have the greatest respect for your decision. Putting principle over privilege doesn't happen nearly often enough

@deevybee It is interesting that a know-nothing venture capitalist passed muster in the first place.
His accomplishments are limited to buying stuff and then running it rather poorly.
=> More informations about this toot | More toots from androcat@toot.cat
@androcat @deevybee One wonders whether, or perhaps just how, his money drove the decision.

@deevybee It may not be a blip on the timeline, but this surely sends a signal that hopefully will not be ignored.
THANK YOU

@deevybee Your courage is inspiring. I'm old enough to remember the saga of the Director of Education at the RS whose views on creationism were “open to misinterpretation”. The Socety is not great at handling this sort of thing.

@deevybee Musk as a FRS? Ridiculous. He has done more for the promotion of scientific misinformation than pretty much everyone else.

@deevybee thank you. & to quote another great woman: https://hachyderm.io/@evacide/113546553529521263 “I don't fight because I'm sure I'm going to win. I do it because I know that a world in which I don't fight will be worse.”

@deevybee I would add he's a terrible scientist, which holds at it's core evidence, verification and honesty. He ignores all evidence that contradicts his business goals and uses the language of engineering and science as marketing hype. Steals ideas and takes credit for others work. Deeply shameful from the royal society, well done for resigning hope others follow.

Nothing like a few years experience of publisher and institutional investigations of research misconduct to get a good feeling for the likely result of the Royal Society procedure.

@deevybee @matrig 🎯 “The problem with this course of action is that if you are uncertain about doing something that seems morally right but may have consequences, then it is easy to find a lawyer who will advise against doing it. That's just how lawyers work. They're paid to rescue people from ethical impulses that may get them into trouble.”
