@grumpygamer Clearly you need to have it detect when players are skipping rapidly and have the characters get upset!

@grumpygamer I had a similar bug for rewards. If you would fast foward and skip it, an animation would be interrupted. It's ending however was the callback for actually adding the reward to the player's inventory. ^^

Hold to skip is a common pattern.

How about a quick time event to skip? Or little Dance Dance Revolution widget in the corner of the screen....

@grumpygamer implement a feature where the more the player presses A to skip dialogs, the slower the dialogs are at being skipped...

Or there is a special unskipable dialogue.

If its the third play they shouldn’t mind seeing it for the first time ;)

@grumpygamer The responses are a whole lot of things I don't like seeing in a game, as a non-speedrunner player. It's up there with forced tutorials.

In some games, I've already been through dialogs and don't want them again or they display at an absurdly slow pace like I'm on a 300bps modem connection.

Introducing a budget, getting slower, etc? I'd be tempted to just put the game down and not return.

@grumpygamer totaly understand, but as a player who had in the past to see the same dialog again and again (and couldn't skip), I would like to be able to skip.

@grumpygamer Of course, in The Secret of Monkey Island there was that one scene where trying to skip dialog led to different - only slightly shorter - dialog instead.

(I would have loved to illustrate this with the 16 color version of the game, but Disney is still too petrified by the thought of accepting my money to sell it to me. Come on, Disney! Of course I will still respect you in the morning!)

@grumpygamer one thing i really want to do in one of my dialog trees is have right in the middle of a conversation a branching path that locks you into the bad ending if you skip over it or mash through it 😈

I used to have a friend who was really bad with that, he'd literally skip all the dialog than complain about not knowing where to go next in a game...it drove me nuts...

@grumpygamer Edit: it seems people in the replies were joking as well, and I was in a mindset where I took them seriously, so my reply was unnecessary mean. Sorry.

I’ll keep the main argument:

I think there ability to skip dialogue is an accessibility feature that benefits people with ADHD, autism, and likely more.
