You could argue that “Netflix made good recommendations because you already watched half of these”.
Incorrect. That assumes I want to watch them again, which I don’t.
Unless I accidentally watch it and 5 minutes in I realise and yell, “Jason Statham is a tough thug with a heart of gold … AGAIN???” and then stop it.
It’s comedic how bad it is. I finished a series. Done. First recommendation under “Great TV Shows”: that show!
Also don’t forget the other half of the recommendations were bad.

Netflix famously paid a million dollars for a recommendation algorithm for DVDs shortly before they went all in on streaming. Let's see how the Netflix home page, with over half a decade of history on my wants, desires, likes, and actions, is doing today:
❌ Game I've played to death
Top picks: ❌❌seen it, seen it ❌❌maybe❌yes if it was a movie, seen it, seen it, maybe
My list: ✔️seen it ✔️seen it✔️✔️
Argh!!!

“But the Americans have higher limits”
Yeah, but the Americans have straighter roads on the Dwight D. Eisenhower System of Interstate and Defense Highways
Plus they have LOWER SPEED LIMITS where sections are more twisty and dangerous. The speed limit changes every couple of miles!
Lower speed limits. Hmmm!
Plus they have huge pileups when there’s a tiny bit of rain or snow or smoke and hundreds of cars are destroyed. Lots of great YouTube videos on that topic.
Is that what we want? #NZpol

Today the speed obsessed donkeys running the country announced the list of State Highways where they’re increasing the speed limits. Not announced: that the roads had been made safer by any metric.
I drove a short bit of State Highway today. (Due to some genius cost cutting my local bank is over 30 minutes away.)
On the way there I saw a car smashed in the back
On the way back I saw a different car smashed in the front!
Used to have a limit of 80

Not sure if the kākā uhi whero (parrot) is back or if the neighbour’s dog has a new chew toy.
There is a series of sharp chirps coming from behind the trees.

She might be on to me.
Siri having trouble transcribing the suggested names.
“Dow account test scratch” is something I might say at work. It’s supposed to be “Dowager Countess”
“Dave scratch him”? Dame Scratchins
Fighting the auto correct on this one.

Continuing the theme of doing some sneaky mixing of interface and user supplied content by pretending I’m Siri recognising the content of an image (and not actually sending the image).
To the listener it appears that Siri has become incredibly clever!
I wonder how long I can continue.
“a photo of a white chicken which would perfectly suit the name Mrs Scratchins”
Let’s try it …

Today in fun things to repair …
Saw a familiar looking chair in a bin being thrown away. We have the same set at home! It looks like an easy enough repair: broken back leg.
I carried it home.
Son helped me put some glue in there and clamp it up until it dries. Weighed it down while that works.
Then I’ll see how strong it is.

I looked out the window this morning and saw the neatly trimmed lawns and remembered what a great job I did yesterday. High five myself!!!
Also there was a bird sitting on the windowsill who got a huge fright, shat itself, and took off in a massive flutter of wings.
I, too, nearly shat myself. Good thing I was already sitting on the toilet!

Roughly 26mm of rain yesterday. Not bad.
Soil moisture has increased from 25 to 39%, which is about where it was two weeks ago before the battery went flat in that sensor.
I reckon it’ll take another 35mm to fill the tank fully.

Does anyone know how to stop making certain topics or channels appear in the #YouTube suggestions?
Someone has watched one video which has suggested Another topic and that has suggested a Completely Atrocious topic.
I've tried sending them other, better links to try and get better suggestions, but they're still getting Completely Atrocious topics coming up.
This is for a logged out user. If I delete their cookies it'll be obvious and they'll wonder why all the suggestions are gone.

You may wonder whether the humble bumblebee, the adorable #Bombus terrestris will bite or sting.
I have now got for you an answer, courtesy of my bare foot and its proximity to a clover bloom:
Bloody ow! What does it matter? It really hurts!!!

You know how your phone’s Lock Screen displays the name of the audio that is playing or has recently played?
And if you’re on a website it uses the title of the page as the audio name?
And Mastodon is a website?
And sometimes it plays audio to let you know you have a notification?
And Mastodon sets the title to the text of the Toot you’re reading?
Well I’m walking around with my phone proudly announcing I’m listening to “Horny Huttites” thanks to @Happyfishmedia !!!

The committee examining the submissions for a proposed Waste to Power Incinerator near me have met and decided they will accept my late submission. Hooray!
I wrote to them with an upcoming journal article, hat tip to @DaveWhittle for the link, showing elevated levels of PCBs in human breast milk near Waste Incinerators.
They’ve also sent the most terrifying sentence of all: do I want to give an in person submission. Eeek! Do I?

I compared my results against the neighbours by using the wunderground wuether wmap.
I am getting ".08" rains, another neighbour has ".03", ".05" and ".00" (definite cleaning needed there).
Can't figure out what ".08" means. It's not inches -- that was my first thought. Maybe they had accidentally converted millimetres to degrees Fartenheit?
Is it furlongs of rain? Current accumulated rain today is 0.79mm (off by x10), and hourly rate is 1.8mm.

Yes, it is raining.
There's also a lot of wind.
Sensor has currently recorded 0mm but I reckon it's over 1mm by now.
Wondering if I should climb up a ladder in the 25km/h gusts to inspect it. Might have a leaf blocking it. Or maybe this model doesn't handle high wind + light rain. Or maybe it's sheltered by the nearby trees which may have donated a leaf.
Third option: stay dry inside.

Recently bumped into the research of Dr Robert Sapolsky who has some ideas about testosterone and its influence on behaviour, which is interesting the zeitgeist because of the current nonsense manfluencers talking about “masculinity”.
In my industry (finance) higher testosterone is linked to doubling down on bad investments and throwing good money after bad. Sapolsky also mentions how testosterone exaggerates our existing behaviour whether good or bad.
