What would you like Framework to build or change in 2025?

Isn't that just #FairPhone ?
maybe Framework and Fairphone could work together on something.

@testman @max @frameworkcomputer
I'd love to see a Framework laptop with fair sourced materials. Framework + Fairphone would be a dream collaboration for me. Both are front runners in modular designs/products and Fairphone can add the fair, social and environmental dimension. This would be a game changer product.

@quixoticgeek @frameworkcomputer Wondering if there would be patent or licensing issues with that.
=> More informations about this toot | More toots from DeltaWye@tiggi.es
@DeltaWye @frameworkcomputer well I had a ThinkPad with a nipple on it in the 90's so patents should be expired. As long as you don't use the same trademark name as Lenovo use. It should be just fine.

=> More informations about this toot | More toots from mmu_man@m.g3l.org
@mmu_man @frameworkcomputer oh definitely. Like on my X1 carbon laptop. If I can have the same mouse/button setup as that. I'll switch to framework, and also same for all our work windows/Linux laptops.

@quixoticgeek My x230 tablet and T530 are probably the last ThinkPad I'll use: in addition to the declining quality the new keyboard (chiclet, I had to replace them with the 520 series ones) are just unusable to me: too small function keys, PrtScrn in the worst place, no SysRq…
So I've been looking at @frameworkcomputer but the current keyboard/touchpad are just a no-go for me.
=> More informations about this toot | More toots from mmu_man@m.g3l.org
@mmu_man @frameworkcomputer yeah. The x230 was such a good laptop. The X1 isn't too bad, it's the least worst on the market at the moment, for me anyway. Hopefully framework will add a nipple and buttons, and I can switch for good.

@quixoticgeek wondering… what's the height clearance for the keyboard in the @frameworkcomputer 16? Asking not for a friend.

@quixoticgeek @frameworkcomputer bleh… no way to stuff a real Thinkpad keyboard in, it's 9mm thick! 😞
Unless dremelling the backplane…

@mmu_man @quixoticgeek @frameworkcomputer same here. Love my 13 but do miss trackpoint and buttons. I'd even not mind not having a touchpad at all
=> More informations about this toot | More toots from ruivo@mastodon.social
@quixoticgeek The official name is pointing stick. Lenovo's brand name is track point. I think at this point Lenovo was the only one still making it.

@frameworkcomputer@fosstodon.org I'd like a rgb free macropad, so that you can put your own stickers on the keys to mark what they do
I'd also like to see some more dedicated testing/direct involvement with new builds of the Linux kernel, as I've seen regressions a few times now for the GPU.

@frameworkcomputer I think the product is a great one, I would like to see a desktop case for the FW16 guts and GPU. And I would like to see the price improve without quality compromise.
Keep up the great work and I hope you see success and continue to make repairable upgradable devices a real choice for everyone.

@frameworkcomputer bare/empty expansion modules.
=> More informations about this toot | More toots from idiot@mastodonapp.uk
@frameworkcomputer I would love a USB-C / Thunderbolt docking station that had the expansion card options.
Not sure if that makes sense, but I could see a big market for it - customisable docks.
For example, I have a Dell WD-15 at my parents I leave there. But, it's got VGA etc that I don't want.
Give me modules to swap around and I’d snap it up!

@frameworkcomputer a full width centered trackpad for the 16. Possibly a full keyboard+pad cover would be nice.
The fillers on either side of the track pad are not good enough. I understand the tolerances constraints but I think this was too much modularity

@frameworkcomputer I like my Framework 13. There are three things I'd change, though, in descending order.
First, QMK support for the keyboard. I'll buy a new input cover with no hesitation if one comes out with QMK.
Better wifi signal. I've tried MediaTech and two AX210 cards, but the signal is never that great. An external USB adapter works perfectly.
A more reliable fingerprint reader. Mine has gotten worse in recent weeks. Even before that, it wasn't perfect, but worked.

@frameworkcomputer we want it to exist in tunisia, even in Tayara which is like the black market of used stuff but legal, everyone can sell anything there, you don't exist, I would like a modular gaming computer
=> More informations about this toot | More toots from bargo@mastodon.tn
@frameworkcomputer While printers are often named here, I don't think this makes sense much. Brother laser printers are /fine/, almost indestructible and cheap cartridges. Perhaps one could think of a coop here but that's all IMHO.
Speaking of cooperation, I'd love to see something happen with Oxide, System76 and perhaps 9Elements for some better coreboot support.
In terms of products, I think improving the existing should be priority:
Of course expansion into periphery would be somewhat nice, however, repairability is your forté and it's less of an issue with say, mice, keyboards, I think.

@ljrk @frameworkcomputer ooo coreboot that’s a good one.

@ljrk @frameworkcomputer
Concerning why printers are brought up despite Brother existing, essentially we don't want Brother to be a single point of failure (or, more likely, capture). If there's competition in the space of printers that don't suck, that will help keep standards high and mean there's a backup plan if Brother gets bought out.
