Can people please, please stop fucking insisting that it's a ~good and healthy~ thing that all my friends are going to die?!

Why is it that when faced with outsiders' fear or suffering, some will do nothing but make callous declarations that this is clearly nothing more than you failing to recognize their fear and suffering, and how dare you care about your own friends being in danger more than about strangers who happen to be part of their in-group?
It seems like a very counterproductive thing to do if you want people to band together against the deep systemic problems in our society.

Has anyone else been running into the problem lately that people think "TTRPG" means "board game", or maybe "board game with lore"?
In an MMORPG, I've run into at least two people who stubbornly refuse to entertain the notion that D&D, or a TTRPG in general, is anything other than a board or maybe a card game.
Just this morning, I wound up calling out someone on this server for calling their online board game a "TTRPG", and not understanding how it's not.

One thing that always baffles me when it comes to discussions of go bags: the advice to include a supply of any prescription medications you rely on.
Have people who give this advice never been on a prescription med in the US? How, exactly, are you supposed to get an extra supply of it beyond what your insurance company will let you have, short of the black market?

Mind you, I'd blame the weather, if not for the fact that this has been sitting at UPS since the 27th, and I don't think the #PolarVortex was in effect yet before the start of the year? There was still the 28th, 29th, and 30th in which it could have left the warehouse, I thought?...

...OK, is there some kind of #strike at the Memphis, TN branch of #UPS or what? An item I ordered has been sitting at the "We Have Your Package" stage there for a week now.

Heck, I'd say this doesn't go far enough. There's probably two kinds of people saying this, the quislings and the people in his own class, and both will prove dangerous at this rate.

A fair warning to people from warhammer.social who are migrating here: this is a fairly left-wing instance, and respect for the LGBTQ+ community is enforced for the safety of many of those here. If you like queer people, though, welcome!

The Senate equivalent of H.R. 9495 is under consideration.
I told my senators that 1) the hostage-saving part of the bill is clearly a smokescreen to disguise a blatant assault on the right to organize, 2) any so-called "moderate" Democrats having voted for it in the House reveals a spiteful, vengeful, anti-democratic streak among them, and 3) "shred all copies, burn the shreds, and dump the ashes in a nuclear reactor".

One thing I appreciate about this site: you're actually allowed to feel things.
...Seriously. In my experience, that's incredibly rare.

My solar panel has arrived!
My cord for the solar panel has arrived!
The adapter to connect the cord to my little power station has arrived!
...My power station has not arrived. It's lagging behind.
And it's not going to stop raining for an entire week, so no testing the solar panel for me.
Oh well. At least once the power station does arrive, I can AC charge it to verify that it's working.

Today's pleasant surprise: Looked at the Google Street View of the house where I grew up, in a place I tend to derisively call Yuppieville. A place where I was relentlessly verbally bullied, teachers were so hellbent on treating me as "the problem" and controlling me that I eventually dropped out, and just generally there was a very Republican vibe.
...In that autumn picture, there was a Pride flag on display.
Maybe things have changed there at least a little since I left.

One thing that's been a bright spot for me lately is The Chronicles of Todd. Come for the impressive displays of feline intelligence, stay for the wholesome "a man and his cat" vibes.

For another, I appreciate the range of perspectives we're getting to see so far. The "main characters" are by campaign rather than by the world overall, which really helps prevent the kind of "the world revolves around the main characters and/or the larger storyline they got entangled in" problem that video game writing often falls into.
Heck, I just completed the "outlaws" scenario, Liberty; the climax went harder than it had a right to, and I was teary-eyed at the ending.

Where I've had the energy to do anything at all, I've been playing the #BattleForWesnoth included campaigns for the first time, my first experience with the game.
Appreciating the writing in these so far. For one thing, racism seems to be commonplace in the setting, but it's not narratively framed as justified or even a neutral thing. Instead, it's constantly leading to misunderstandings and tragedy.
