I recently discovered this channel, Branch Education. While their videos (which all have to do with how parts of computers work) have nice visuals, I find I can nearly always follow them even though I can't see. This one has some really cool information on how graphics cards work. https://youtube.com/watch?v=h9Z4oGN89MU&si=Dhgp_KjHwGVWE_Wy

NVDA add-on suggestion. You know how a lot of headings nowadays have links, so you can link directly to that section of the page? When doing a say all, this gets annoying. NVDA repeats "heading level n", then the link text, which is often a partial repeat of the heading text or a number sign. The add-on would simply silence such links during say all. You'd hear "heading level 1 section 1" instead of "heading level 1 section 1 heading level 1 link number sign".

I have no idea what that character is. It's supposed to be an apostrophe. I've heard of a few kinds of single quotes being used as apostrophes, which is annoying as a screen reader user, but never... Whatever this thing is. It's 0x2BC, or 700 in decimal.

I know this post won't apply to a lot of you, but if it does apply, you might be happy to hear the news. The His Dark Materials trilogy is being re-recorded. Audible U.S. has the first book, the second is coming in a few weeks, and the third is coming in April. I don't know of the narrator, Ruth Wilson, but she has to be better than the full cast recordings I already have. I'll definitely be getting all three books. If you love the series but hate the full cast audio books, rejoyce.

I'm happy to say I did a 6KM jog this morning, at least as far as my Apple Watch can figure. It was on a treadmill, so who knows how far it really was. The point is, the treadmill worked great, as it has for the last 9 days. I'll write a full review from a blindness perspective once I have the rest of the tactile buttons described to me. Also, while my left achilles tendin still hurts some in the morning, it's far better than it was, even after the long run. Yay for physical therapists!

There was an announcement today about student loan forgiveness for severl groups of people, among them people with a permanent disability. I have one of those. What I'm not sure of is whether this is meant for people whose disability leaves them unable to work. Does anyone happen to have more information on this?

What's a good USB-C to 3.5mm adapter? There are thousands out there, but I want one with good audio quality, good build quality, and no concerns about it randomly failing after a few months. It will not travel, though if the price is good, I may grab one or two more to keep in my travel bag just so I have them.

Uber Eats just offered me buy one, get one McDonalds fries. However, they did so by saying I could "buy two, save one for later." Um... Do they know McDonalds fries? Or fries at all? No fries are good if saved for later. They're famously best when fresh and useless when cold.

I'm slightly intrigued by this, but it better do object location, stair indication, and the other things my guide dog can do. I also don't know about wearing it when out and about, both because of the look and the heat. I also suspect users should still use a cane. @grammargirl I just listened to this week's first segment, on "The Wizard and I". Your explanation of when to use I versus me makes sense, but the rule I was told as a child was to drop the extra stuff and just use the one that makes sense. You don't say "me am going", so you don't say "you and me are going". Is this simplistic rule always right? Right except some edge cases? Your rule about the subject and object feels more complete, but I find it harder to quickly apply as I'm writing.

Can a flute player please describe which keys are which notes on a flute? All I can find are images or videos that aren't accessible. I can't seem to find any plain text that says where to put my fingers and what to press to get which note. I know basic music theory already. Thanks in advance!

On World Braille Day 2025, I find myself in an odd place regarding braille. I still have the MPower 32 I used as a wired display for years. After switching to a laptop in February 2024, though, I haven't been able to fit the laptop and display on my desk in a comfortable way. I haven't used braille output for almost a year. However, I used braille input on iOS many times a day and would never want to be without it. I miss braille output, but not as much as I expected.

My sister has been Christian all her life. Recently, Youtube has been recommending videos from an ex-Morman to her. The videos talk about the weird rules and beliefs Mormans have. She's amazed at how nuts their beliefs are. I keep wanting to point out that she thinks she can talk to an invisible space wizard. Isn't cognitive dissonance fun?

I now remember why I don't often use the BARD Mobile iOS app: it doesn't respond reliably to headphone controls, which I use most of the time. Specifically, it may or may not pause. It resumes playback pretty consistently, but it randomly refuses to pause. I don't know about the reliability of seeking.

I have to go back to work tomorrow. I don't wanna. A cool-down of at least one day after a holiday, especially a mid-week one, should be legally mandated.
