And with Google's algorithm, the context is likely some rambling paragraphs long story that starts with their childhood on an orchard. Instead of, "it was able to take down an entire data centre because someone didn't stop and think".

Funnily enough, just today I had someone who was doing order of operations wrong, and tried to build up Google's answer in an obvious "appeal to authority" argument (as those do who don't have any ACTUAL evidence for their claim), like Google had some kind of GOOD reputation that they needed to defend! Spoiler alert: My response MAY have started with BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!! 😂

@heatherhorns_lite right now, customising Google Search to give you something approximating normal search engine results (rather than some combination of external genAI slop and in-house genAI slop) requires a level of technical knowledge which an average user has no hope of acquiring without... a functioning search engine. It's very depressing.

@heatherhorns_lite (To anyone reading this who would like that information: the short answer is that you should enable the "verbatim" and "web only" search options, but having to do that every time you search is unworkable, so the longer answer is that you should add a custom search with those options into your browser of choice, and how to do that exactly depends on your browser. But it's doable. It certainly doesn't fix all of the problems, but it helps.)

On Facebook groups for instance the amount of non helpful and totally wrong answers is way higher than if a person would have bothered to try Google. And way too many people just don’t use Google because they’re simply too lazy.
