I wish there was something like a dating app, except for everything besides romantic stuff. For example finding people for hobbies, or just to see a movie together.

@spinning_bird i don't typically use apps like this but i was curious awhile ago and downloaded it. I deleted it before setting up my profile because there was just too much setup necessary. it wasn't overwhelming, it was just too much.

Maybe I'll try creating another, less weird profile, or try other locations to get to the bottom of it.

Bumble as a dating app apparently isn't very popular where I live anyway, and I imagine its platonic sibling even less so.

good luck. i would be happy with one that wasn't just "local" too, like ... uh ... how social media was supposed to be. the closest i've come to this is Mastodon, honestly.

@buru5 @spinning_bird yeah, exactly. The reason I'm here. This connects with the other stuff, that's growing. People are sick of walled stuff. I am. My last walled are my 3 Instagram accounts, one I barely use. A kinda personal one, a hobby one (games and toys) and a business one. And I'm on TikTok but I don't use it lately other than to see what my wife sends me hahaha

For online I'm happy with Mastodon.

Recently dug out my Instagram account that had ~60 people I know/knew irl, but it seems most have gone quiet (or now use other accounts).

I tried making a new Insta account, but it's like... you can't even find anything but "popular" pretty people dancing and things like that. 😩

It seems either you start adding irl people (meaning you'll have to be more careful about what you post) or it's almost impossible to connect...

@spinning_bird @buru5 ha! Well, if you wanna see my games/toys one, it's https://instagram.com/playcollectrepeat - I've just had it for so many years. Before Meta bought it. I take huge breaks and sometimes consider quitting, but I know some GREAT folks on there.

You're right about the pop crap on Insta, I use Instander (sideloaded APK) on my Android so there's no ads and I turn off suggestions.

But yeah, I've met cool game people on there, I'm no snob, I follow and talk to everybody.

Some amazing ones on there are pureprinny, me_without_mew, arena5150, dinobot711, monsterwj41, lostndreamland, robplaystheoldgames, ssleepysnorlaxx, dosgamert, sinistar87, myquih, coinsnconsoles, coolarcadeswag, yoshiserama.

I collect a bunch of weird old toys and whatnot haha
