A generous donation from a work colleague; a really nice boxed "Thunderin' Turbo" from the #TomyTronic3D range. "The sound isn't working, though..." - this turned out to be a very simple fix, as the speaker connection had de-soldered itself.

Always may favourite of the TomyTronics, a simple but addictive racing game, still very playable today.

All fixed, up and running, and in better condition than the one I already owned... it's a win!

I've been meaning to bite this bullet for years now. This fella has been sitting in the loft since we moved here 15 years ago.

These were sold with the batteries connected, to allow customers to preview the #dalek voice functions. Sadly, this means that, by now, the insides of this particular dalek will doubtless be a far closer match to the "real thing" than the makers ever intended.

Hence my reticence at unearthing it. It's been 19 years, I can let it sit for another few days...

So this "display piece" is now a working example, albeit moderately bodged one. Meanwhile, I get to look like I actually know what I'm doing once again, an illusion entirely attributable to the internet cleverclogs massive.

The test identified the faulty RAM chip causing boot failure; a quick swap-in of a new 2114 chip (a couple of £ via usual channels) and we were nearly there. The Keyboard was all over the place. A good clean and a re-paint of the graphite pads fixed the "missing" keys, but something was randomly triggering the up directional arrows, endlessly scrolling menus & blocking the joystick control. Swapping out one of the VIAs with a 6522 chip harvested from a very dead BBC 'B' has sorted that, too.

Thanks to Dave Curran's Dead Test running off the "Penultimate +2" cartridge from @futurewas8bit - this 1981 Rev A. #Commodore #VIC20 lives again!

Amazing to think that this was already a "retro" computer game even when we played it in school in 1984!

I don't think we knew it was THAT old. With contemporary IT generations more likely to be measured in months than years, a 12 YEAR OLD computer game would have felt like communing with the ancestors... 👴

This is "Starburst" on #ZXSpectrum - a "Crash" magazine covertape game. A very decent shmup which manages to avoid colour-clash issues for the most part, and plays quite smoothly. Incremental power-ups build quickly and you don't lose them ALL if you die. Have to appreciate a shmup that isn't dead-set on wrecking your life... 🙂

If this was on the front of my magazine in 1991 I'd be pretty chuffed.
