Ingesting all the proposals in the recent paper mailing prior to the Hagenberg, Austria WG21 meeting feels like a serious attack on me! 🙁

While the C++26 cycle is approaching a deadline where no more proposals for new features are accepted unless they haven't been discussed before, and already reached a certain stage in the processing pipeline, this doesn't mean work has stopped on those that have.

Quite the contrary. And I need to give more scrutiny to the - sometimes subtle - changes in there to vote on propsals in EWG or plenary with proper knowledge and consideration before they can go into the international standard.

If you are not deterred but rather still interested, you may read all the papers yourself and follow their progress over time. This is an open process. The decision making is not, as it requires comprehensive C++ knowledge to weigh arguments with due diligence. But people are free to introduce additional points of view that may change my own.

BTW, there are rumours that some people in ISO are not happy with the perceived openness of WG14 (i.e. C), WG21 (i.e. C++), and other standardization working groups in SC22. But we try to be as inviting as technically possible.

FWIW, on my way towards seven years of contiguously learning some foreign language every day.

People who know me are probably acutely aware of my highly sceptic view on AI in general, stemming from my personal experiences in this space that started at university with my diploma thesis in the late 80s and took form in the 30 years thereafter.

I acknowledge its power and its capabilities that transcend my own in certain ways. And how it can be useful.

But what I didn't realise so far is its tremendous impact on society because of its even larger power to enshittify things that we have grown to assume as being sources of knowledge.

This is disgusting. I feel betrayed.

We have 'if' in C and C++ since forever.

We have 'if constexpr' since long.

We have 'if consteval' now, too.

I am missing 'if only' for appallingly illusional (AI) programming that is so effective in like business applications, or test code.

I feel thrown back in time, when I was way more occupied with digital signal processing algorithms 😁🚀✨

The best: with those new ranges and views in C++, development is soo much easier today compared to what it was like 20 years ago. 😎

Instead of all this low-level pointer chasing necessary long ago, I simply describe my intent at a high level (where humans are good at) now. The compiler then does its thing (where it is good at) and figures out how stuff is best done at the machine level.

My car is asking for a tank refill. Again. Last time it did that was barely 20 months ago!
