The saddest part about the thread below is how many people are still on Instagram.

On the one hand, setting my replies to ‘Unlisted’ makes a lot of sense, as it doesn’t pollute local or federated timelines.

On the other hand, I have discovered many fascinating people, groups, hashtags, and topics because of someone’s reply to a post from someone I otherwise wouldn’t have come across.

What is your setting?

“Using a canopy crane to access the treetops, we installed custom-made leaf-heater boxes to warm leaves from four mature tree species by 4°C – a temperature rise predicted for tropical systems by 2100.

Our study found warming reduced photosynthesis across all species.

Photosynthetic rates dropped by an average of 35% in warmed leaves compared to non-warmed controls.”

What a dog walk I had!

I managed to photograph:

I also spotted but was too far or too slow:

Plus too many pheasants to count (there’s a farm nearby).

All within a two hour walk!!!

Motionless, this heron was almost impossible to spot from the distance.

Blue hour, 300mm, 1/5s, handheld, no IBIS.

In case you haven’t heard of him before, I highly recommend the probably most famous Polish sci-fi writer, Stanisław Lem.

He was the first to portray alien life in a form that did not resemble humans. In 1976, Theodore Sturgeon wrote that Lem was the most widely read science fiction writer in the world.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stanis%C5%82aw_Lem?wprov=sfti1#

I would start with "Solaris" and "The Futurological Congress," two very different, thought provoking, and well-written novels.

After a month of regular fasting and consuming 20% of my usual nutrition, I lost 10 kg in weight.

I haven’t done much exercise—only 50 km of running and a few bike rides and HIIT workouts.

This was not a weight loss attempt but rather a way to recover through autophagy from the COVID-19 infection and its aftermath.

According to my Garmin scale, I lost 3.6 kg of muscle and 0.6 kg of bone mass, but I don’t trust these results. My measurements are similar to pre-C19.

I’ve been thinking about the current #Nikon cameras lineup.

If I was in charge, apart from updating the Z9, I’d split the Z7 line into:

Z7c - a rugged, weather sealed and fast shooting 35+MP ASP-C camera in a Z6 III body with the same internals (apart from the sensor) for sports and wildlife (to compete with R7)

And

Z7r - a high resolution 60+MP full frame for portrait and landscape work. Again, same body and specs as Z6 iii apart from the sensor and speed.

I’ve been fasting for almost a month now.

Not that I haven't eaten for a month!

I started off with a 96-hour fast, ate for a day, then did a 72-hour fast, ate for a day, 48-hour fast, ate for a day. I’ve been on Alternate Day Fasting for two weeks now.

Observations:

I’m more prone to illness; my recurring infections take more effort to keep at bay.

My sleep has been amazing.

My resting heart rate dropped below 50 (I’m usually in the high 50s/low 60s).

I prefer the days when I don’t eat.

There’s no better time than the festive season to do a bit of reminiscing.

At 16, I got my first job and bought a used Minolta X-700 with 35-70 f4 and 70-210 f4.

Complicated camera. Steep learning curve. I loved it.

At 20, I sold the kit to my college English teacher, Keith. That’s when I switched to Canon.

Keith was from Ohio but his grandfather was Polish. Keith moved to Poland for a year to learn about his heritage. He was two years older than me. We became friends. This was his first SLR.

Keith is now a world-famous photographer.

In our universe, we have black holes and what we perceive as the 'forward' flow of time.

Einstein’s theories and equations account for both black holes and white holes. It’s plausible that on the other side of each black hole is a white hole. In that universe everything is as we know it, except time flows in the opposite direction.

Who needs religion when there’s theoretical physics…??!!

Experiments like the Delayed Choice Quantum Eraser suggest that particles can travel back in time to choose different paths based on future observation.

Some suggest that if humans weren't bound to the forward flow of time, we could ‘play in reverse’ to any point in our lives and select a different path (allowed in Einstein’s calculations; the multiverse; theme of ‘Tenet’).

What if #ADHD is a faint noise from the alternate paths one followed? All the carrots the ADHD brain has chased.
