In case you haven’t heard of him before, I highly recommend the probably most famous Polish sci-fi writer, Stanisław Lem.
He was the first to portray alien life in a form that did not resemble humans. In 1976, Theodore Sturgeon wrote that Lem was the most widely read science fiction writer in the world.

I would start with "Solaris" and "The Futurological Congress," two very different, thought provoking, and well-written novels.
