(I can't reply to you @statsguy without some faff so I[m replying to myself.)
Tomorrow she has another interview with a very different, much smaller company. And you know what? They use the same fucking platform… let's see what happens. At least with that one, I know someone who knows someone on the inside so maybe we can compensate for the bias.
I don't mind her not getting the internship. But I do mind if it's based on something spurious, undermining and insulting.

Had a long chat with one of my personal tutees (students for whom I have pastoral care). Very smart, articulate, and funny young woman who is ASD and has a modest physical disability. She told me about an automated interview where the AI gave her some kind of feedback at the end. Apparently it "concluded" that she is not a team player and is anti-social. This could not be more wrong. I wonder whether she will get a rejection tomorrow… I'm pretty outraged. #AI #bias #risk #disability

Dunkelflaute precedes the big storm. 280 gCO2/kWh. This is some of the highest grid intensity I've seen in a while. Price has just come down from £200/MWh... Someone's making money.
But on the plus side it's worth pointing out that this grid intensity is where the anuual average was in 2018. From @kate

A bit late, I guess, but I've finally deleted the four dormant accounts I had on X. All of the timelines were dominated by Musk, Tice, Tommy Robinson and other crud. Relieved to be gone.
Meta stuff has been in suspended animation for a long time. I guess it'll all be next.

Is there a direct way to get images out of a FLIR C5 camera using a cable. The camera I have doens't seem to connect to anything with a wire or wirelessly. And it can't connect to wifi at work because it doesn't allow for a userid - only a password. It's quite weird and unexpected to have such a locked down device.

Utterly baffled. Bought a split ticket to Bradford, swhich is split into KingsCross - Wakefield and Wakefield to Bradford. It saves me £50 compared to a “direct” ticket.
When I got to Wakefield I was told to get back onto the same train and change in Leeds instead…. With no penalty.
I mean WTAF? Good thing I asked in Wakefield or I might ended up an hour late.
I will never cease to be astonished by the madness that railway privatisation and dismemberment has brought to the UK.

Does anyone know how much it costs to get a FLIR C3 or C5 calibrated? I"ve got my hands on one and the C3 is giving numbers almost 10 degrees below "the actual temperature" (please don't laugh at my wording @Protons4B ). Altering the emissivity setting doesn't allow me to tweak things and I suspect it has to go back to FLIR. So I'm wondering about the order of magnitude for the cost of calibration.

Are rösti countable? Surely this is a single rösto. I will cook a second panful and then we’ll have had two rösti. In other words do rösti come in number or amount? I think we should be told. #English #Swiss #cooking #mysteries

I can no longer access my bank's website - I suspect it's due to the Badger tracker-blocker which has spotted tiqcdn which belongs to a company called Tealium, and then there's TrustPilot. Any thoughts about this?
I've found a page about something called "Confection" that can help tiqcdn get round Safari and Brave's privacy settings. any advice? Not to be able to access online banking is annoying. And I will complain to them but first any information you have would really help. @eff

Shutting down our Department this afternoon and watching the kW go down. Our basal metabolic rate remains enormous. But we're a lot lower. Hoping to get well below 300 kW by midnight tonight… #energy #controls

I saw the #documentary “The Bibi Files” tonight. It pulls no punches and the storytelling is remarkable. Phenomenal shots of faces, of glances, of looks. Loads of candid footage of the police interrogations. In the second half, his pact with the devils Smotrich and Ben Gvir is explored in brutal detail. Along with brutal images of the war. I might have liked the odd interview with some of his supporters. But it’s riveting. Riveting. #bibi #israel

And so it's done! #UCLChemAirPoll is over for 2024. 61 classes visited. almost 600 measurements made. Feedback from schools and from students so far very positive and deeply satisfying.
Overall, we are seeing slightly lower levels than in the early years of the project (2016) thanks, in part, to the ULEZ along with LTNs and the gradual growth of EVs.
Plenty more to do to improve air quality in London, a multilayered problem that our students have been discussing with the children.

Fine gig this afternoon! Robin Ince reading his poetry and telling smutty jokes, and then Attila the Stockbroker, the man who inspired my online name, and his band. Brilliant loud ranting punk. Fab!

And BBCWS #Newshour continues into a second hour. They're rolling with superb, thoughtful coverage. Breaking news radio doesn't come much better than this! Some of it makes you feel like you're there.

Coverage of #Syria uprising on BBC World Service is outstanding. Julian Marshall presenting and marshalling (!) the head of the ICRC, BBC correspondents and local people. A must listen. #joy #Assad has gone!

BBC World Service has been outstanding . Weekend invited Prof Joshua Landis from Oklahoma, an outstanding authority on the conflict – for three hours we had the benefit of his insight. The interview with 39 year old Rania K in which she described her trembling joy; ex-prisoner Ahmad Helmi who described being imprisoned by the regime.
Outstanding radio. Applause for the Weekend team. The last hour is here: https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/w172zcxbh4q5z7x
You don't get this on commercial radio, folks.

I cannot tell you the joy I feel this morning listening to the news not just of the fall of the monstrously cruel #Assad regime, but also the fact that for the moment things are calm, peaceful and joyful.
Trivial though it is, I think of the insults, slurs and threats that I endured (alongside others) for daring to suggest that the Assad regime, abetted by the Russians, had used chemical weapons on their own people. There are awful people out there, and plenty of cheerleaders.
Let's celebrate!
