Toot

What-if battered deep-fried haggis (a chip shop staple) only done a la Chicken Kiev with a delicious goopy melty Fry's Turkish Delight filling? Served with salt'n'sauce on top of a bed of deep fried onion rings ...?

Wouldn't that be SPLENDID?

@cstross You're a deeply disturbed human being, Mr. Stross.

That being said, I would be willing to give it a taste.

@cstross I am cursed with a facility for involuntarily tasting foods when described to me, probably related to my synaesthesia. This is an abomination for a Monday morning. Thanks so much.

I developed the ability to smell words such as cheese, roses, toast, violets, etc. that I hear or read after trying a migraine med. It clearly rewired my brain.

It has faded over the last 4 years but I still realise I'm smelling something based in a word I was barely conscious of hearing.

Luckily they are mostly nice scents. But I do avoid detailed descriptions about Victorian or mediaeval streets.

Have you ever heard that your tongue can predict the texture of almost anything? Like you can look at something and you'll instinctively know what it would feel like to lick it? I do that with anything you can taste or smell as long as I've had some exposure to the substance(s) previously. Even when I don't want to. Mine is because of an injury as a toddler that rewired my brain, though!

Would probably work better with an orange turkish delight; the rose flavour wouldn't pair so well with the spices in the haggis.

@cstross best onion ring variant I've ever had was battered and fried pickled cipollini onions. A much better batter to onion ratio and the acidity from the pickling is a really good counterpoint to the frying oil.

My first read: "battery deep-fried haggis" - Would that be using battery acid instead of palm oil..?

Haven't tried haggis yet, but the local variant ("Saumagen") lost a lot of its.. "bling" after Helmut Kohl stopped being around, feeding it to his every official guests.
