I filter my feeds to keep from being overwhelmed by politcal news, and I have a couple requests:

• Use politicians' real names. I can't keep up with every joke name.

• If joke names are critical to your vibe, please add a tag like #USPol to the post

• Include the politician's name in your alt text when they're in an image (or quoted in a text image)

I know today is weird and I'm doing my best to be forgiving, but I don't wanna start muting/unfollowing unless I absolutely have to.

@mitten the joke names thing is driving me up a wall. I know it originated to evade reply-guys on Twitter but it's actively detrimental to how Mastodon's user-controlled filters work.

@mitten Another suggestion - use the CW function and treat it as kind of a headline so people can choose what they want to read.

@Howard For whatever reason, I've found that people round these parts really don't like using CWs. My guess is it's because”content warning" seems so heavy and foreboding. I suspect that if they were called "content wrappers" instead, more people would use them.

But anyway, most of my filters show the filter name instead of hiding the post completely, so I use that to choose what I want to read.

@mitten Thanks. My tact has been to stay mostly off-line today and I haven't watched or listened to the news since election day. I need to do that again but giving myself a little more time first.

@mitten agreed. Same goes for other controversial figures. There’s certain social media CEOs I’m sick of hearing about but people use so many variants of their name it feels like playing wack-a-mole muting it
