Am trying to remember how long has it been since I did any travelling / travel #photography without a full frame camera.

At the airport waiting for my next #adventure with only my phones and an #OMSystem #OM1MarkII.

Will I miss my full frame set up? Watch this space!

Absolutely hilarious.

I keep seeing videos on #TikTok from people in EU and Commonwealth countries saying how when the Americans couldn't get on for a day or two, the content was suddenly noticeably nicer during that period. 🀣 😝

@pixelfed Hi Pixelfed team. I was wondering if there's an administration setting to delete content after a certain period of time.

For example, I have my Mastodon server set up to delete posts after 3 months. Does Pixelfed have anything like that please? I am interested in also having a Pixelfed server.

Thanks. =)

[#]Instagram's AI thinks I'm carrying out suspicious activities on my account because I have been interacting with lots of people and they have followed me as a result. But the AI thinks that I bought all those followers.

If you happen to have #Instagram, would you mind watching this short reel all the way to the end, and interacting with it by either liking or dropping a comment please, so that IG doesn't think I'm just making content for fake people please?

LOL I guess #Instagram didn't like it that I was more effective at building my own community than paying them for ads. 🀣 😝

LOL so having had time to actually properly interact with people over these past couple of days on #Instagram, the algorithm thinks my new spate of activities is due to the fact that I am using a "service" to gain likes and followers!

Apparently, they want you to interact with other users, but will punish you if you interact with too many lol.

I can't follow, like or comment until 25 January now. Sheesh.

[#]Instagram on mobile now displays feeds using a 4:5 aspect ratio preview grid. Instagram on desktop continues to use 1:1 aspect ratio.

This is annoying to trying to work out a way to properly display the feed as a preview.

Yes, full frame cameras perform better in low night than crop sensor cameras, but the real question is do you actually NEED a full frame camera to capture beautiful photos of the night sky?

Answer: nope.

/> I always find it very humbling looking up at the night sky. The vast distances which the light of the cosmos has to cross to get to us just blows my mind.

For example, looking at how I've managed to capture the #AndromedaGalaxy in this frame, its light actually left the Andromeda Galaxy around 2.54 million years ago. If at this moment the Andromeda Galaxy disappeared, we wouldn't find out about it on Earth until another 2.54 million years later.

/> I used the #OMSystem #OM1MarkII's high res mode to create a stacked photo of the night sky, which gave my shot extra details and lower noise at 50 megapixels. Scaling it back down to 20 megapixels to match the single shot foreground resolution helped make it look even less noisy, as well as made it look sharper.

I merged the single shot foreground with the stacked shot of the stars, and added some noise across the frame to make the noise pattern more even across the whole frame.

A shot of the night sky taken with the 8 mm fisheye lens of the night sky. The shot features (among other things) the #MilkyWay, the #AndromedaGalaxy and the red and green hues of a weaker display of the #AuroraBorealis.

After over an hour outside in temperatures of around -37Β°C, this is what my camera looked like after being brought back inside. The very low temperature of the camera meant that it actually hurt to touch - felt like burning - without gloves.

Although the rated temperature is only down to -10Β°C, mine still worked fine whilst snapping away in -37Β°C.

People often ask me what the aurora looks like to the naked eye when I'm there watching the cosmic light snow, so I thought I'd put together this short video showing how it looked to me at the time vs the unedited RAW image vs some of the thinking behind my editing.
