I touched on this in the past but am curious how you sound, your actual voice and accent.

We read each other's posts, and there are hints at what we might sound like, but we don't know.

I'd love to hear voice notes of you all but understand that's quite personal. If you're up for sharing your voice that would be amazing, but if not what's an approximation?

I have the demeanor of Roy Kent from Ted Lasso (sweary and deadpan but not as deep) with a bit of Danny Dyer and a touch of Kenneth Williams camp.

Dog chat voice is always different. Generally when talking to Daphne it's soft and higher pitched, but when she's being a pain I talk to her exactly like I would a drunk friend, "fucks sake Daphne, will just you shut up now!".

I posted a while back that my dog doesn't understand sarcasm. This was prompted on our daily walk, on the way home Daphne just stopped in the middle of a field, refusing to move. She wasn't sniffing or interested in anything, she just sat.

I found myself talking to her and uttered the words "that's it is it? So we live here now do we?". No other humans were around.

Wait! Are you saying I have a SOUTHERN accent? 😅

Full discloure: I worked in radio and TV for about 10 years, and did V/O work after that. I trained the drawl out for work, but revert to my relaxed, Southern voice. It's more than the accent, just like you. A separate vocabulary and way of speaking.

Next, I'll do a Hillybilly accent. I had one of those as a kid as did everyone around me. Still use it occasionally to make a point or poke fun at myself in a convo. Make people laugh. :awesome: x

I imitate accents all the time, can't help it, what with so much focus on sound. EFL commentators give me a lot of fodder. Also, my spouse and I as Russian speakers came up with a super-cali accented Russian which is a completely private patois.

@TheEddieShow @TwoClownsEating AH HA! The second I heard your voice, I thought "that man has a radio voice"! Of course when I was in the radio business the jocks had other phrases to describe the voices of other jocks. I particularly remember hearing "He has balls down to his knees".

I don't pick up accents from other places since I am so solidly Midwestern. But I do pick up phrases and terms. I lived in Texas two different times. When I was in the Deep Woods near Beaumont, TX I did pick up more of the language there. Some Cajun, even. Now, I actually sometimes use "Y'all". And what I often heard waitresses ask: "What do y'all want y'all?"

My term for the radio guy (and it was always a guy) who's in love with the sound of their own voice is "Ron Radio!" Like Gary Owens, hand cupped over one ear. Drive-time DJs.

One of the reasons people loathe speaking a group, besides the usual anxieties. How they think they sound. I love listening to people talk, guessing where they may be from, like that.
