Toot

I got one of those cool little thermal cameras that plug into your iPhone, only annoying this is that it's Lightning only (the USB-C model is Android only, weirdly)

Has anyone tried a compact Lightning to USB-C adapter to use these with modern iPhones? I tried a random one from Amazon and no luck

@christianselig same with other non-standard lightning and usb-c accessories: Android version (or lightning via usb-c adapter) lacks magic mfi bits and won’t work without new firmware and recertification.

@timo Yeah I wish they hadn't cheaped out in the first place, my DJI stuff just immediately worked with iPhones over USB-C

@christianselig Not particularly helpful, but I was eyeing one of these to solve a similar problem: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0D2LT7459?tag=marcoorg-20

I have a few-years-old FLIR wireless clip-on model — got wireless because I suspected a Lightning-to-USB-C transition was imminent — but the wirelessness makes it laggy and prone to dropouts so much that it sucks to use.

@marcoarment My issue with so many of these is that they have horrific watermarks and overlays baked into the video/photo files, so I'd watch out for that. I have a Topdon one that literally bakes the video timestamp into the center of the video file (aaahhhhh!!!). I grabbed an Infiray P2 Pro because it does a great job of turning these off in the actual resulting files (if you want), but yeah, Lightning only it seems. Not sure how Seek compares there

@christianselig @marcoarment no overlays or bake-ins on our Seek app. You can turn off the watermark in settings, it’s a simple toggle

@yertle @marcoarment Interesting, even the temperature scale bar? Bigger issue for me personally is you folks seem to not sell to Canadians haha

@christianselig @marcoarment good question on the color bar, I left my cameras at work. Will check tomorrow! I just checked my gallery and every photo has the bar, so I’m guessing you can’t turn that off. Sorry, the Product folks make the calls 🤣

Not sure on Canada, but I thought it was in the country list when I ticked all boxes in App Store Connect. Will we not ship to Canada straight from thermal.com? There are lots of export control laws around thermal, but Canada is generally fine…

@yertle Ah yeah I'm just looking for a clean thermal feed without any overlays unfortunately, like this: https://mastodon.social/@christianselig/113663615833886429

For shipping, the Amazon link on your website just goes to the US page, and it's making me create a business account just to see if it ships to Canada so I’m probably just not gonna bother haha (plus that risks import duties)

@christianselig confirmed you can turn off the watermark and colorbar in Settings.

What about from our website, thermal.com?

@christianselig we sent some to a distributor in Canada, so I’m getting details. Not sure about the USB-C though, because we just recently got MFi approval on that (what a headache). I’ll let you know

@christianselig

If you want data to be recognized get and try apples adapter. Chances are good almost any other random generic cable adapter is going to be concerned with charging only and nothing more.

@davidga Most adapters (as I've discovered) don't support data, just charging, while Apple's does support data, so it should work for your use case https://www.reddit.com/r/gadgets/comments/16jedaq/comment/k0pibid/
