Somehow missed this monitor from CES: an ASUS 6K monitor, so the same resolution as the Pro Display XDR, but it only costs a bit more than what the XDR's stand costs. The XDR is still better, but high res monitors are finally entering the mainstream

What's the recommended way in a widget to check if protected data is available? UIApplication.isProtectedDataAvailable is bizarrely missing from widget contexts, surely we're not supposed to just "try to write to protected storage and see if it fails”?

Has anyone hit this bizarre behavior with app groups and Live Activities? Write to the shared app group in the init, and the Live Activity just silently dies forever, no error message. Any other directory and it works fine. Am I holding it wrong?

Okay, punting on the DC clamp meter functionality for now and down to the Fluke 117 and the EEVBlog/Brymen BM235

BM235 benefits:

I was planning on treating myself to a Fluke, but finally wanted one with a DC clamp meter (and ideally logging). The 325 seems great for this, but loses fine measurements for electronics use (no mV/mA measurements) :(

Oh sick, turns out it speaks QC3.0 over the USB-A port and a different one of my little USB-C trigger boards can talk QC3.0 so now it works over 12V with a sketchy cable!

Downside is the power bank won't output anything out of the USB-A port if both USB-C ports are active so this is all for naught ;_;

Maybe dumb question: I have a USB-A (not C) port on a powerbank that can output 5V 3A or 12V 1.5A. I have a little monitor that only accepts 12V (and consumes max 0.8A)

This powerbank's USB-A port would be great in a pinch to power the monitor (via a trigger board or something) but the port seems to default to outputting 5V, is there an adapter or trigger board (or something!) that I could get that would make it output the 12V?

I was a little worried about strength… so I just jumped on it, and if it can support me easily it should be able to support the ~9 lbs payload

Happy with the little sidecar tripod adapter thingy I made, I can even attach it to my light stand for easy height changes 😊

I got one of those cool little thermal cameras that plug into your iPhone, only annoying this is that it's Lightning only (the USB-C model is Android only, weirdly)

Has anyone tried a compact Lightning to USB-C adapter to use these with modern iPhones? I tried a random one from Amazon and no luck
