IT HATH ARRIVED.
And even better it was in the pod that doesn’t have a king sized mattress completely filling up the front of the pod (we will have help moving tomorrow)

I feel like I’m really showing my age in that the thing I am most excited about being reunited with (we said goodbye to our possessions in the care of UPack on January 6, we are supposedly having them delivered TODAY, more than 10 days after their “guaranteed” delivery date)
…is my vacuum cleaner.
I love my cats, but disposable litter boxes plus pee pads, a janky swifter and a dustpan that doesn’t lie flat under its own weight (thanks Target) have really been lowering my quality of life.

A friend in the #structuralengineering #aec industry is attending his employer’s panel on professional/business development and how to succeed within the company.
Already two of the panelists have said something along the lines of “sheer luck”.
🤦♀️🫠

The pods have gone dark on the final leg of their journey (last update 2 days ago in Portland), so I’m working on some side projects and portfolio updates today. Actual furniture still in short supply.
I hope I’m doing this right @mahryekuh (the beverage is tea, and I have no intention of dunking it)

UPack update: lo, it is well past our delivery date and we still have… no pods.
AirTags say they are in Portland. UPack doesn’t deliver on the weekend, so it looks like at least another 4 days before we get our stuff.

I have, in fact, gotten out of Los Angeles and am in Seattle with my partner and two cats.
All of our belongings not so much. AirTags still say they’re in a depot in Anaheim and haven’t moved since they were picked up last Monday 🤦♀️.
Obviously all told things could be much much worse and things mostly went according to plan (timing could have been better), but I’m excited to find some new coffee shops to work out of until we have chairs and/or tables in our apartment.

When I told my manager this he was dubious that I was in an area with power cuts (I’m in Fullerton, nearly 35 miles from Pacific Palisades), yet lo, I am without power again.

Soooo I keep getting power blips because of the high winds/fire risk and now I’m really second guessing choosing to fly to Seattle on Saturday with the cats rather than driving with my partner today 😬
SoCal really knows how to say goodbye.

Even better, the official branding of company 1 on LinkedIn is the inverse color scheme 🤦♀️

One of my former coworkers just joined a company where the logo is basically the mirror image of the logo of the company we worked at together.
What are the chances??

The software developers at Apt2B are having a really bad new year.
There’s a sale on, and I want to design my own sectional, and the sectional builder has been down for the past three days (I even contacted customer support about it and they said people were working on it and it should be back up before the sale ends…)
Now they’ve just removed the builder ENTIRELY. 🤔

Found while packing:
I think worked enough overtime in my first year of work as a structural engineer to bank nearly 2 months of PTO on a single project. (I remember they made you cash out once you hit 420 hours).
It’s a thank you from the president of the company for all my “flexibility”.
This was also the job/project that made me pick up software engineering and Python because copying shit in excel was what required all that overtime 🤔

I’ve been meaning to switch from packaging with poetry for my cython library to packaging with uv, but alas, physical packing is kicking my ass.

Best value at Costco is definitely the giant roll of Saran wrap.
We got ours over 5 years ago before we moved west and it is still going, and massively helping with our move 😅

I did a lot more running in the intervening month, but had to be really diligent about arm braces because I was still twingy and nerve sore almost every day. Now I’m muscle sore but not nerve sore?

Ok so apparently I’m at the life stage where if I dont lift weights, I aggravate my RSI, and if I do lift weights I aggravate my RSI.
I took a month off lifting because my ulnar nerve was acting up (and maybe I’d f***ed up playing too much beat saber) and it seems that the real issue was that overhead press of any kind is no bueno, but the two lifting sessions I’ve done this week have somehow relieved a ton of the pressure?
Bench press, lat pull downs are fine (and apparently good?)

Ok this data “puzzle” I’m working on is hecking fun.
So far I’ve been able to identify two points in time (2008 and 2021) where state legislation changed, causing a massive influx of applicants to avoid onerous requirements.

Also, there was an incredibly rude employee going through the line when we were waiting that was telling anyone who’s flight was originating in DFW (they weren’t on a connecting flight like us) that they were responsible for their own transit and lodging since their transit point of origin was Dallas. Not apologetic at all (I’m sure that was part of training) but I was under the impression that a delay of more than 3 hours requires some kind of compensation.
People were pissed.

They kept us in a line for over an hour before we magically all received hotel options and meal vouchers on our phones, by which point it was midnight and we had to all shuttle to hotels (off of the airport of course) just to turn back around at 4 am for the 6 am rescheduled flight.
