How can I make #swimming more interesting? Right now I swim back & forth and every time I take a look at the clock, I’m amazed how little time has passed - it’s so boring 😴

After the usual get-together on Christmas Eve, I spent the rest of the evening on my couch finishing “Fear and Trembling” by Belgian author Amélie Nothomb - in French!
It takes me forever to read in French and I doubt I picked up all the little details, but if I don’t practice, I won’t get better at it.
Now off to bed. I hope the book cover won’t give me nightmares.

Welcome back to the EU research programs, Switzerland! Such a relief for many people. 😮 Scientists from the EU can now work together with their colleagues in #Switzerland much, much more easily.

Something for the data nerds (= you): While #Goodreads is, for several reasons, garbage, it does show me this nice breakdown of when I read a book vs. when it was written.
Unfortunately, I cannot zoom in. But at least each dot is identifiable via mouseover - it then shows the book, author, year read, and year published.

Join me in doing the #52BookClub in 2025 and fill 52 prompts with the books you read! I’ve discovered such great #books this way (and I like checking off boxes). It’s helped expand my horizons when it comes to #reading!
My favorite 2025 prompts: “pun in the title” & “set in a country with an active volcano”, but there are other great ones.

The ability to play background sounds right from #iOS18 is a game changer for me. I spent nine hours on public transport today and thanks to some artificial rain, I was (almost) unbothered by chanting football fans, chatting friend groups, and families with children 🕊️

SOLVED! Question on #iOS #shortcuts: I want this shortcut to start a 3 min timer when it’s around noon, but the rest of the day I want it to toggle silent mode. The attached photo shows what I cobbled together.
Error: When I start this shortcut, it says “Choose a value for each parameter in the action”.
I don’t understand what’s missing - what would I have to add, and where? (Please note: I have zero programming knowledge.)
SOLUTION: iPhone and the shortcuts app must be in the same language.

Why is the default for reminders on #iOS to have a date but not a time? What use is a reminder that hogs my lock screen all day when I really only need to remember that thing at lunch/in the evening or whenever?
