Join me in doing the #52BookClub in 2025 and fill 52 prompts with the books you read! I’ve discovered such great #books this way (and I like checking off boxes). It’s helped expand my horizons when it comes to #reading!
My favorite 2025 prompts: “pun in the title” & “set in a country with an active volcano”, but there are other great ones.
Challenges like this have helped me get back into my reading habit. No need to read 52 books though! 😌

Something for the data nerds (= you): While #Goodreads is, for several reasons, garbage, it does show me this nice breakdown of when I read a book vs. when it was written.
Unfortunately, I cannot zoom in. But at least each dot is identifiable via mouseover - it then shows the book, author, year read, and year published.

@JensJot Sounds cool. Will you post here? I think I might join.

@Shuhejla Oh great! 🥳
I sometimes post about books I read on here, but not all of them. I have a dormant bookwyrm account, but mostly use goodreads to track my reading. You’re welcome to add me there if you’d like!
I might post a list of the books I read for the 2024 #52BookClub challenge — I just have to find a way to make my list more readable first 😅

@JensJot I don't use Goodreads, I will just post here.

@Shuhejla Great. Enjoy planning the challenge! For me, half of the fun is matching books I want to read to the prompts (and rearranging them throughout the year) 😅

@JensJot I don't think I'm going to plan afar. I will probably just take the list in hand whenever I decide what to read next. And I always start the year with Christmas presents, but in the beginning it's going to be easy to match them to the list.

@Shuhejla Yes, I don’t plan for the full year either - I want to read random finds and the books my book club(s) decide on, too.
Towards the end of the year there’s always a bit of shuffling for me since some prompts are easier to fill than others 👀

@JensJot I will probably try to fill those I think are more difficult first and discover in December that I misjudged. 😇

@Shuhejla You sound like an experienced reading challenge participant already! 😅

@JensJot I did participate in a few challenges on lovely books. Problem there was that I don't like the website too much, and don't open it often enough so I fell out of it. With a list to keep by my bookshelf and postings on a platform I open several times a week I think it is more fun.

@Shuhejla The #52BookClub has a very active Facebook group, if that’s your thing… and a good website and newsletter AFAIK, but I only ever use Goodreads and my own spreadsheet for it 😶

@JensJot This is the only social media I'm actively using. Everything else is going to fade away. But we'll see. Perhaps there are more people who want to share their progress here.

@JensJot recently found this https://booksirens.com/reviewer/CIGQ48W?utm_campaign=reviewer_sticker site that has some interesting goodreads viz, one of the projects i hope to do this year is to make a simple webapp that lets you upload and get viz, becasue goodreads UI is just ...

@JensJot This kinda begs the question what you were busy with in 2017

@swoonie Other hobbies (and work), I'd say. I hardly read anything during grad school and my first jobs after that - all the dots that are there in the diagram represent comic book compilations (that are faster to read for me).
It took me a bit of commitment to restart my reading habit in 2021.

@JensJot The amount of books you read from 2021 looks truly impressive.
I love that vertical time axis. Mind you, I read a wee bit of literature from classical Greece over the years - calls for a log scale!

@swoonie I have few other hobbies and tend to read quite fast.
And yes, books from antiquity might make the data look… spread out 😅
