Although I have joined the JOMO movement, I generally know what's going on in the world because Mastodon does a great job of making sure what's really important still finds its way to me.

No reason given to the public, but the judge postponed Rudy's trial to Tuesday. This is odd, because someone (not necessarily Rudy) posted to his X account at 10:30 this morning, when he should already have been in court. Typically, you need something like an accident, death in the family, whatever, to warrant a postponed after being a no-show. Even those things tend to be reported to your own lawyer.

This got us national press, a short gag on "The Daily Show," and me, personally, a lot of hate mail (some of it came from Nebraska). But it passed and it is still the law in Loudoun today. Opponents said we'd get sued, but that didn't happen.
So why do I brag about this? Because if my board could do it in 2010, yours can in 2025. Find out. Call you local county, town, or city rep. Ask them if you have this protection. If not, ask them to pass it.

Prior VA governors had always started their term with Exec. Order #1, which prohibited discrimination in government based on sexual orientation. The new gov, Bob McDonnell, said he wasn't going to do that.
Local gov't powers are very limited in VA. But I did believe we could pass a rule that forbade sexual orientation discrimination in the county government. So I wrote that up and got a majority of my board to back me. At a friend's suggestion, I even added "gender identity" protections.

And now I am going to brag, but in a way I hope will be useful to others.
In 2010, I was an elected county supervisor in Loudoun, Virginia. Yes, the same Loudoun that made a lot of press when its school board sought to protect students and staff from transphobes a few years ago.
Somehow, no one said much about the fact that the board I was on had passed those protections for county staff (which does not include the schools) over ten years earlier.
It was my idea.

It's done. I've just deleted my Facebook account, and my Instagram account. Along the way, I noticed I created the Facebook account almost exactly 20 years ago. God, what a mistake.
If I log back in to either by Feb 10, it reactivates. Gee, good to know f_cking Zuck has some time to realize what an asshole he's become, and re-earn my presence. Yes, there is a greater chance that I will be declared the king of England.

SCOTUS has already ruled you can't prosecute the president. Now, New York state court rules you can prosecute someone for things they did before being the president, but you can't punish someone about to become the president.
Probation wasn't practical because his probation officer's name would have leaked and that person's life would have been in real danger. But why not jail? 34 felonies is, I'm pretty sure, enough for jail.
