I hope that TikTok just says whatever, gets hosted off shore, outside the US, and lets Americans complain to their ISPs if it is blocked. Keep on keeping on, until the public realizes that they are oppressed, not the company.

The US is only 20% of their current market share according to a podcast I listen to.

I just viewed TikTok for the first time, in my computer browser, not logged in, as a guest, in explore mode.

Awesome.

And now I wish EVERY video on YouTube had an AI, 30 second fast cut, so I could find what I want to watch, in 'long mode', quickly.

The 2 second silent preview loop is not as helpful.

TikTok is not as serious, but is exactly the right length. They had a business model that ate everybody else's lunch. Short mode, without a long commitment, is the future of online video.

You know, you don't have to be the person who only talks politics, only posts pictures, only tells jokes. You can sell things here, but you don't have to be only your worksona. You are welcome to keep on doing what you are doing, I liked it enough to follow, but you are also welcome to share anything else here as well, it is a place to solicit conversations.

And thank you to all the kind people who are sympathetic or empathetic to me too, as a whole person.

'Witchcraft'. How the learned men of the age referred to alchemy when women did it.

I am not looking forward to a return to the Dark Ages.

For non self driving cars, a display on the dash that shows following distance and it is red if it is shorter than the minimum recommended.

If cars are going to be this 'smart' they should do useful things.

I am mostly thinking about freeways here:

Imagine if all cars were required to broadcast (short range) their weight and speed, so electric and/or self driving cars could adjust their following distance in mass.

I wouldn't mind if the drivers/owners in the extremes of the upper and lower quartiles were also automatically sent tickets, to the registered owners. That includes rental cars; cars driven by spouses, kids, friends; commercial cars and trucks.

I quit my new job 2 weeks ago and have been sitting around trying to get over the trauma. It was a very nice, well organized job, in a field that I love, and as written ideally suited my abilities. Unfortunately the complete chaos of everyone else at this new site, including my local manager, who grabbed me to make up for the dozens of things he had no control over and no idea how to fix, meant that I was falling behind on everything I was tasked to do and wholly responsible for.

Doom spiral. 😞

Also, because Trumpi will target the good cities, the local police start showing up, till they out number the thugs, to make sure no citizen is kidnapped on 'suspicion' without any evidence of a crime.

I'm in the US, have worked 34 years along side many ethnic and first generation American peers, all of whom worked as hard or harder than anybody, and I don't know of any employer who did not gather proof of work eligibility.

I have heard of it happening, in red states. But no proof.

Imagine a factory where Trump's anti immigration goons show up, in tactical gear, guns polished, flashlights charged, radio codes memorized, riot ready. And 100 Hispanic looking people get to take a 2 hour paid break while an HR geek goes through a list and repeatedly says "no, here's what we have" from a list of names and soon 100 girlfriends and wives start showing up with paperwork too.

All because MAGAts who called a snitch line don't know the difference between skin color and legal status.

"Make Greenland Green Again", MaGGA, the slogan for the actively PRO global warming crowd.

The company supplying innovative new EV trucks to the US post office has indicated that they are willing to go back to gas engines if the new administration asks. The new EVs and their lower maintenance + fuel costs were cited as benefits that have lowered operating costs for USPS.

Paraphrasing - 'But if you want us to go backwards, we will.' Seriously?

Pro pollution, pro global warming administration.

Here's a highschool philosophy question, but I am interested in hearing discussion anyway.

You are not highly paid. You have to move to a foreign country for work. They give you a list of small places you don't know much about. Incidentally, you found an article of '30 most racist countries' in your research, and a few are on your list...BUT, you are not the race that is discriminated against, your race matches the race that is generally given advantages:

This influences your choices how?

What a shit country.

No, I love my state, most of the people in it, and the beautiful natural environment.

I love a lot of other places too.

But government exists to do what the individuals can not. It creates justice, equal opportunity, assures the common peace, general welfare, the opportunity to pursue one's happiness.

The perversion, popularity means you can do anything, and people who can do anything (the rich) must be popular. It will be the death of this government. A hollowing out.

"Because a sitting president can not be prosecuted in a criminal trial."

That is it, right there. The moment the American Empire was doomed.

A.) If the president does it, no consequences,

B.) as long as he stays in office. So the worst person in the office, who has people illegally killed, has every incentive in the world to never give up that office until his own death.

The US Supreme court has incentivised a dictatorship.

POTUS is a popularity contest, and can do anything, no limits.

The Orangetan shitgibbon.

The fact that you know exactly who that is says EVERYTHING about about America, politics, propaganda, and the end times dystopia we are enduring.

I literally pity people who had kids. May the young live glorious lives destroying everything that deserves it, because we couldn't.

Thanks to recent news I now know of the Trump Hotel in Vegas as "the urine stained looking tower".

What, no, that just refers to the goldish looking patina they tried to put on it.

Yeah, no, I know why you could be confused.

[#]SlaggingOffTrump

Someday in the distant future there will be a movie about our time, a historical comedy, a sort of "can you believe it?" kind of thing. And playing the President of the United States they will use a large, male orangutan in an oversized business jacket and comically long tie. And there are only 2 reasons this will be considered unrealistic: A.) The orangutan probably has a better golf swing, and B.) since the orangutan can not talk, it can't say something stupid everyday.

Major point in the article - the Cybertruck's (and Musk's) complete disregard for the safety of anyone else (no crumple zones, high mass) may make it impossible to get registered in any jurisdiction with adequate safety regulations that try to save the lives of both parties involved in any accidents.

(And again, it is an angular 4WD hatchback, like a AMC Eagle made by an angsty teenager as a welding project.)

A quote from an article in Wired:

Musk has stated that the Cybertruck’s silhouette was designed to be aggressive. “It is an armored personnel carrier from the future,” wrote Musk in October 2019, and then again in November 2023, and twice this year.

(Commentary) So, ah, why is a future armored personnel carrier a thing you think would be a growth market for rich civilians in America, Mr. Musk?

This is how Rwanda got a genocide, relentless propaganda on comercial radio by right wing ethnic bigots stoking fear and resentment, until neighbors went after neighbors with machetes.

So what is their goal in the US?
