Given that the US is generally more libertarian and more suspicious of their own executive branch than most other western countries, I'm a bit surprised that the reaction to the impending TikTok geoblock isn't just: "Well, my VPN is running anyways, might as well set it to France now."
Also that they'd rather download yet another Chinese app rather than just a VPN app.

I just saw a video of an artist responding to a fan who asked if they should stream their music on Tidal rather than on Spotify. The artist's answer: If they got all their Spotify streams on Tidal, they would earn around 4'500 $ instead of 800 $. With Apple Music, it'd still be around 2'400 $.

Frage an junge Menschen, was sie sich von der Politik wünschen. Häufiges Thema: Bildung. Erstaunlich oft konkrete Sachen wie „Ich weiß, wie man ein Gedicht analysiert, aber nicht, worauf man bei einem Mietvertrag achten muss.“
Funktioniert Schule heute so anders als vor ~20 Jahren? Damals hab ich gelernt, mir Wissen über Dinge anzueignen, zu denen ich bislang wenig/keinen Zugang hab. Die konkreten Themen (Gedichtsanalyse, Parabeln, ...) waren letztlich Vehikel dafür.
Für alle Generationen vor mir hätte ich das sogar noch verstanden. Ohne passendes Umfeld war praktischer Wissenserwerb schwierig. Aber heute sind aktuelle Informationen überall. Fehlt hier die nötige Methodik?
Denn ehrlicherweise hätte ich genau das Gegenteil erwartet: Dass junge Menschen nicht (mehr) lernen wollen, was sie sich mit drei Klicks und 20 Minuten Zeit aufm Sofa selbst anlesen können.
War das repräsentativ? Dass solche Sachen öfter kamen, macht mich nachhaltig nachdenklich.

Yesterday, I received a very ... unique call by a social security worker. It started with her asking for some clarification regarding my paperwork and ended with her getting a bit emotional about my condition and telling me a story of her late mother.
It felt a bit out of place at first, but in the end, it was a breeze of fresh air to talk with a human and not to a named employee.
Which is just to show that even if you admit or deny claims of money for others, you can still be a genuine human doing so.

Ordered something online. Claim was three to five business days for delivery.
It took GLS six business days to collect it, then another eight to do something with it, even though they themselves predicted delivery for last week at some point.
Today, the parcel is out for delivery. At first, the live tracking claimed it was 30 stops away. Hours later, it was nine. Then 34. Now 43. 😂
It's not very urgent anyways, but I feel like if a package is cursed, it's very thoroughly cursed. Or maybe it's their normal mode of operation? Last delivery by them must have been quite a while ago.

I've been having somewhat serious gut problems for a few months now. I finally got a gastroscopy – or, to be technically correct, an takes breath oesophagogastroduodenoscopy – today. Of course, everything looks normal. So now I'll wait for the biopsy results and then talk to my GP again about how to go forward.
I also had to reschedule a phone call with a social worker for my administrative paperwork, as it would've been too close to today's exertion.
Did I mention that the new year picks up right where 2024 left off? That's what I meant. 🙃
Getting today's appointment short-term and relatively close-by was a win though. Let's try focus on those.
