Trying to figure out the logistics of leaving Facebook. It would cut me off temporarily from a lot of relatives and creative communities. But these days even if I am reading a good piece of content it feels like looking at a good book that has been printed on used toilet paper.

Listening to the album "Sun, Salt and Time" by Bruce Cockburn today. Record is over 50 years old, but it is perfect for addressing my stress today. Bruce is a Canadian treasure.

Here is the title track: https://youtu.be/XY8M_9FP7Ec?si=eLUnRMdcwEIYB03q #BruceCockburn

Remember everyone: the best way for the left to fight back against Trump and right wing extremists everywhere is to engage in bitter infighting and to publically condemn those who don’t check off every box on your political purity test.

He stuck up his arm,

In fact it was twice.

Now we'll find out he's Nazi, not nice.

Fascist Musk is coming to town.

My sciatica meds that I am on right now don't allow me to drink. And man, I could use a beer tonight.

It’s on the cool side in Toronto this morning (-12 C) and the door to the coffee shop where I’m sitting can stick open, allowing the cold air to come in. Thank you to customers who are making sure the door is closed behind them! #GratitudeForSmallThings

A suggestion to my fellow Canadians: today would be a splendid day to do one’s best to start buying local and buying Canadian!

I rode this trolley route when I first came to Toronto in the early 1980’s before it was discontinued. I wish the trolley buses had been kept in service!

In the dark times ahead we are facing a test. (Not just in the US but around the world). Who will look inside themselves and find courage, determination, resilience, patience, and compassion? All of these will be required in the face of of the right wing authoritarian onslaught.

Fighting back will not be free, and there will be painful costs. But to do nothing will cost the world so much more in the long run.

The next four years will be history (and likely not in a good way). Why not capture this history in a personal perspective and start a journal?

I'd suggest a handwritten one; if it's not online it can't be indexed, consumed by LLM's, analyzed by governments, or deleted by a service provider.

Once the election is called, it will only be a short while before Trump endorses Poilievre, and of course Musk already has. I hope the other parties feature that prominently in their comms. Seeing ads with a pictures of Poilievre and Trump, with the voice-over saying "This is who Trump wants as leader of Canada."

I hope I’m wrong but as the year progresses and Trump supporters discover that Trump can’t deliver on his promises to improve their lives, we’ll see a Kristallnacht in the US, as Magats are manipulated into directing their rage at people who are truly marginalized.

And the billionaires will sit back and watch, giggling.

Read this, and remember that #Poilievre wants to prevent the implementation of pharmacare in Canada.

I think a key message to Ontario voters (and federal voters) this year is to remind them that one of the reasons the world is stuck with the Trump nightmare is that some Democrats didn't vote. They need to understand how critical each and every vote is.

A critical mass of Americans have already made that choice, and have earned an eternal mark of shame in the history books.

I know that people like to shit on Starbucks (and often they richly deserve it) but I like their upcoming new policy of making reusable cups mandatory for free refills.

According to the comments section in a FB post I saw last week, a lot of dog owners in Toronto feel that when they have a bag of dog poop to dispose of, and the city garbage cans are full, it is perfectly acceptable to just throw the poop bags on the ground instead of, you know, taking the bags home and disposing of them in their own garbage.

This is just one example of the kind of entitled attitude that shows just how fucked we are.
