Pretty sure someone in Europe will be saying “I don’t have the right cable” literally every day.

@pluralistic Cory, that “$11,000” is the first statistic you list about UHC. The second is that they deny 32% of claims. Nobody actually knows if that’s true either. That data hasn’t been collected.

Hey @pluralistic , your Sept. 2020 writeup of the $11,000 Covid test is completely wrong, and so is your reference to it yesterday.
UnitedHealthGroup did not defraud the government out of $11,000. UHG was the victim of an $11,000 fraud. It paid the $11,000.
“United kills people, for money. During the most acute phase of the pandemic, the company charged the US government $11,000 for each $8 covid test” — no. Wrong. Completely backwards.
Please fix! Thanks

South Korea, the 12th largest economy with 1.6% of world GDP, elected a right-wing leader who hates feminism, wants to end food safety requirements, wants to end unions, and wants the working class to work long hours.
His party’s power is waning — and he just declared martial law

665.4 million liters is 540 acre-feet. Per year.
For the last 40 years, the Tagus-Segura Water Transfer has diverted up to 530,000 acre-feet per year from just downstream of Talavera de la Reina to the Segura basin, where 86% of it is used for irrigation of crops.
Twenty times more water is sent 300 miles away just to irrigate Segura golf courses than this Meta headquarters will allegedly use.

It’s not interesting that a large number of Democrats are repeating election-denial claims. Every large political party has a lot of members who do this when they lose elections. This has been happening since elections were invented.
People are writing about it this week because the stories get eyeballs — because Republicans love to say “see, Democrats are just as crazy as us!”
No. Their party pushes the bullshit. Requires belief as a shibboleth. Write about it when even one top Dem says it.

Web browsers are impossible for ordinary humans to understand, part one million
Login.gov is a well-built, simple website, with clear, explanatory text that is wrong.
On recent versions of the world's most popular web browser, there is no https:// and no 🔒 lock visible anywhere (unless you know to click the weird no-name button to the left of the domain name)
"Here's how you know"!

Reuters, today, in a story about Republicans having 52 to 54 Senate seats:
“Regardless, Republicans will not secure the 60-vote majority needed to advance most legislation in the chamber.”
That is not a thing. It’s only a thing if the incoming Senate decides in January that it’s a thing. And since they will own every branch of government please do not be like Reuters and be surprised if they reject that thing.
American news media really is good at misinforming people

Everyone loved the speeches that only her base watched.
I feel like the vibe among my left-leaning friends has flipped in the past week and everyone’s confident Harris is going to win. Holy fucking shitballs, y’all, that’s not what the available data says. There is a fifty-fifty chance all y’all are going to go through 11-09-2016 all over again.
Trump still has a fifty-fifty shot at this thing, just like he did last month and the month before

Inflation was a global phenomenon, and the US weathered inflation better than almost all comparable countries.
This one fact takes all the wind out of the Trump campaign’s sails — it’s the only issue they keep hammering on — and that’s the reason the Times, the Post, and TV news ensure that most Americans are completely unaware of it
If Trump wins, this will be a big part of why
