665.4 million liters is 540 acre-feet. Per year.
For the last 40 years, the Tagus-Segura Water Transfer has diverted up to 530,000 acre-feet per year from just downstream of Talavera de la Reina to the Segura basin, where 86% of it is used for irrigation of crops.
Twenty times more water is sent 300 miles away just to irrigate Segura golf courses than this Meta headquarters will allegedly use.

This is a strange logic:
AI--better than smoking!
Globally, we are facing a freshwater crisis, and the response of the tech apologists is: "Well, we don't use as much as golf courses ... yet"
People: AI is using so much energy.
Tech bro: Let's build nuclear power plants!

@gerrymcgovern My friend, they are building a billion-euro data center campus employing hundreds of people a short ways from this city and this river.
They said the data center cooling would take "little to no water" and their worst opponents' estimates say it will take one one-thousandth of the water that's already being diverted south.
So they were correct. Their water usage will be lost in the noise. So the water's not a problem. What's the problem?
