Ableism and racism are not separate issues. White supremacy was built on the construction of white people being of supposedly superior intelligence to everyone else, and that being the reason for their moral authority over everyone else.
While people are (sometimes) willing to deconstruct the "white=intelligence" bit, the more difficult part is realising that "intelligence=moral worth" is also a construct of white supremacy, and one that desperately needs to be unpacked.

Please stop equating/blaming cognitive disability/mental health issues with bigotry.
Some bigots are disabled. This does not mean disability caused their bigotry.
Bigotry is never about being unable to be good, it's always the unwillingness to do so. Blaming cognitive incapacity as the reason for bigotry is to say (1) it's not a choice and (2) being cognitively disabled can make you a bad person, which is oppressive to disabled people.
Bigotry is always the choice of the bigot.

I remember how ~10 years ago, a USian I knew said that he believed that the United Nations ought to be led by the United States as a force for good in the world, without which it would get influenced by authoritarian dictators.
I was pretty flabbergasted at his lack of awareness at the time; it's entirely possible he still believes this (and discounts current state of affairs as an anomaly).

Just read the Vulture article on the Gaiman story, and it seems like the most common thread among the victims is powerlessness. Most of them were in a state of being without money, without friends/family support, without the means to survive, while Gaiman actively used his status as wealthy person to assert power and be violent.
I generally advocate for UBI, but its counter is also important: there need to be hard limits on wealth and income.

"Mental illness allegations" are always ableist, in addition to being homophobic/transphobic when based on sexuality/gender.
Disabled people continue to be institutionalised and denied agency in the world. Radical politics need to include disabled and mad folks, and abolitionist politics need to include psych abolition.

Advice request: Should I embargo my thesis?
I would like to convert it into a book, and am hoping to have the book published in an open access format. I am considering embargo in the off-chance that publishers will otherwise not consider publishing the book.
My main goal is wider distribution, and I suspect an eventual book will be way more accessible to a lot of people than the thesis itself (which is more law than I'd make the book).

Stephen Fry "both siding" #trans rights while his friend who-will-not-be-named is both attacking trans rights and suing+attacking women to supposedly protect women's rights is very telling about what power does to your perspective.
Puberty blockers are banned in the UK for gender dysphoria, but not for cis kids needing to delay puberty. The government is not attacking Terfs. But it is doubling down on banning essential healthcare for trans people. The two sides are not equatable.

Unpopular opinion: the #wicked narrative is #ableist. It's supposedly trying to say "treating people who look different badly is wrong", but uses mythical green skin as the difference, while the only #disabled character is shown with tired tropes of tragedy, pity, unlovability, bitterness and desperation for cures. I dunno if movie will deviate from musicals in part 2.
Abstracting difference into fictional ideas while slotting real-life differences into exclusionary tropes is not inclusive.
