the one screw does a good job of holding the tap firmly enough for now; the other one has vanished. it's like magic. we checked underneath the cabinets ten times, every nook and cranny. it is gone. probably to the same place that singular socks go.

neat! both clamping screws fell into a black hole behind the kitchen sink cabinet. we video'd the underneath space, no screws to be seen. vacuumed, no results. the screws are gone and the tap is wobbly now.

noticing the option to use passkeys more and more. apparently the entire industry has settled on a name and protocol for this without me noticing - admitted, it felt a bit creepy at first. all i recall is that i said a few years ago it sucks that we don't login with pubkeys instead of passwords; and there we are now. my wish is coming true, and i now get to experience all the unintended ramifications of it %) will passkey's fail cases make me want to return to passwords though? i doubt it.

the feeling i get whenever somebody calls the contents of a public litter-basket "well organized" (which happens never) is the same i get whenever somebody calls capitalism a "system" (which happens a lot)

playing half-life: alyx with the developer commentary on is quite illuminating. playtesting heavily informed the design every step of the way - not just watching people play, but also questionnaires. i find this so different from moviemaking, where employing focus groups is still seen as somewhat icky and running contrary to authorship. but hearing what valve started out with, and how players guided the game where it ended up, it feels like playtest-informed design was absolutely necessary.
