@puck @inlaing : A fair comment, and the axe as-is could easily kill a possum, but I wouldn't want to use it for that purpose.
It's still being restored, so the blade is blunt, and it's a splitting axe, so the head is heavy and the handle is long. That's going to make it very hard to aim for a humane kill.
I would probably go with a Mojave scissor trap, using the axe as bait.
