@elaterite It's part of ESO's Very Large Telescope in Chile, which actually comprises several telescopes: four 8 m Unit Telescopes and four smaller 1.8 m Auxiliary Telescopes. The one in this image is an AT. The ATs can be moved along rails and arranged in different configurations.
