I'm autistic, I used a list of emotions that were grouped by similar types and just tried to figure out what I was feeling that way. With my autistic eldest, I would list out feelings when she looked like she was having a hard time identifying her internal state. Eventually I would hit one close to what she was experiencing. When that happened, she always recognized the feeling. But she couldn't figure it out on her own.
