It was idly funny talking to someone at the municipality the other day. They asked about the mental health of me and my spouse, and we're both like ...
"Well, we're disabled, the world is on fire and the last two months have been extremely stressful ... but within those circumstances, we're not too bad."

Hey, could I ask everyone for a favour?
When talking about current state of US politics (including the aftermath of the inauguration and all the awful, awful, awful things going on), could you either add a content note/warning, or use the hashtag uspol or something like that?
I can't do anything about it, but every time I see Musk, or Trump, etc, I feel waves of stress coming over me. And I'm not even directly affected by it--I suspect it's even worse for a lot of other people.
I'm not saying "don't talk about it". I'm saying "allow people to choose what they want to interact with". Please.

So, Friday I Did Things.
And I'm not sure if this is "I caught a cold" or "recovery from doing" but I'm coughing, sore throat, pains ... >.<

Oh joy. Nothing as lovely as realising that three rows ago you screwed up on the count when you were crocheting >.<
But, the three rows are frogged, I cheekily added the two stitches missing at the end of the row--to not need to frog/figure out further--so now I should be good to go.

there's also some interesting relationship developments.
We have two drs (one psychiatrist, the other isn't) who are pining after nurses (a side character and our main character).
The psychiatrist is doing a bit of ... pestering the nurse, which I do have ... feelings about, but in his defense I'll state that while she turns him down (and rather clearly to that), her reasons aren't "I don't like you that way". First she claims that she's "garbage", and then insist she sees ghosts, followed by claiming that she has athlete's foot, is a mean drunk and half a dozen other reasons. And since she turns him down so clearly, it feels like she'd be able to tell him "no, I don't like you". (she does like him that way, but he's never needed to worry about money while she lives in an apartment that doesn't even have hot water, so she fears that would break them apart)

Rewatching the South Korean drama "Daily Dose of Sunshine" and am again struck by how I like how they portray things.
The setting revolves around a nurse who at her third year shifts from "internal medicine" to the psychiatric ward (and around some others there), and it's oddly ... gentle.
I can't tell you if this is indicative of most psychiatric wards in SK or if it's ... well, how things should be, but while there's conflicts (between drs, between nurses, between drs/nurses and sometimes staff vs patients) and the staff sometimes forget that the patients are people rather than just patients, there's an underlying kindness.
Whether that's forgiving people who makes mistakes, or just being kind to patients who need it ... Even the patients that are in extreme crises gets dealt with quickly, as gently as they can (while making sure they don't hurt themselves or others).
We get explanations for what various conditions are/mean, and while of course most of the condition are badly affecting people (it is a ward with people who's been committed, after all), we see people get better, and people who can handle things with just a bit of help, and for every person that's an insensitive asshole towards people with mental health issues, we get several who are just ... good about it.

Since I was idly reminded that I haven't mentioned this in a while, let me give an update on my supplements journey!
Summary: some time ago I got recommended L-tyrosin (or somesuch, I have the Swedish spelling in front of me, not English <.<), an amino acid, to help my suffering thyroid gland. I'd also at a prior time upped my magnesium intake (which worked with my sleep issues a bit, and then ... stopped working).
At this point I think I've been on it a month or so. I got one supplement that had a bunch of things for the thyroid (they call it "thyro balance" and there's iod, selen, zinc, some other stuff as well as the aforementioned amino acid), and one 3-in-1 Magnesium.
I've gone with 2 capsules a day on each (the Magnesium is 1-2, the thyroi 1-3), and the biggest thing I've noticed is that my morning back ache seems to have eased a bit. Basically, a good day I shouldn't have any back ache when I wake up, but if I've ended up sleeping on my back it gets really painful. It does generally go away after I get up, but I've more than once been forced to get up, not because I've slept enough, but because it hurts too much to stay in bed.
So, within the last month I've been having less of that "waking up with too much back pain to function". I'm going to see if just 1 capsule of the thyroi balance will keep it within that level (it's a rather expensive supplement >.<). Since that's the level I want to be on. I want to have little enough back pain if I've slept wrong that I can actually go back to sleep if I need it.

@RickiTarr bawls! I mean, I should've expected it. They named her Lenore after all ... But still! <.<
Madeline Usher is such a ... Well, there's (broadly speaking) two categories of people:
Madeline Usher is sooo close to getting it ... and then shows that she doesn't, by blaming the poor, the disabled, those whose lives are being torn apart. Because, clearly, if I didn't want to get hooked on pain killers, I shouldn't have gotten chronic pain to start with, right? <.< (I'm not hooked on anything, but that part of things is ... kind-of close to home for me)

btw @RickiTarr, had you watched Midnight Club or the Fall of the House of Usher? Based on what I've read, I don't think Midnight Mass is for me.
For either of the two ... well, I cried buckets at both seasons of "The Haunting". Will the same be true for them?

Just finished watching Mike Flanagan's #TheHauntingOfHillHouse and I really recommend it (assuming supernatural horror with a lot of shared trauma, misunderstandings, PTSD and grief is your cup of tea <.<).
It's one of my favourite books (and in much Shirley Jackson is an inspiration for my writing) and I feel that they managed to make a nice, fresh adaptation with lots of references to the source material ... which kept the soul of the work intact.

I'm safe and OK, this is not a subtoot of my current situation (or even necessarily someone else's), but I want to make this clear to everyone:
Depression lies. It's the worst bully you can imagine, who knows all your weak points and who you can't even walk away from, because it's in your head. You're not weak, you're not a failure, and you have worth and value because you are you.

This was the very first iteration of it. Not even a video clip: a still image and the text "what coffee would you give to unexpected visitors?" in newspapers 1985.

"When you get unexpected visitors: Gevalia Coffee" is still their ads! cheers (actually positive--it's a blast from the past).
So, for those who barely understood one word of my prior sentence: Gevalia is a coffee brand in Sweden, and when I grew up they were doing a series of "unexpected visitors" with rather absurd "visits".
Like sitting in apartment when the bathtub from the upstairs apartment falls through the ceiling ... with the upstairs neighbour in it.
Well, today I was looking a CurseForge for a mod and found the latest one: a man biking in moose country, then accidentally falling down a hill as he gets spooked by said moose ... and falls into the hammock of a man enjoying the quiet evening in his isolated cabin <.<

"Quisling" is a term that in the nordic languages, at the very least, means traitor and collaborator. It is named so from Vidkun Quisling, a military office, nazi collaborator and the one appointed to govern over Nazi-occupied Norway.

Suddenly I'm curious!
Have you heard/do you know the term "quisling" as part of your language? (don't bother doing a web search, I'll add context in my next post)
Let me know where you're from and what you believe it means?

okay, so now I'm curious ...
What type of consistency do you prefer your mashed potatoes? Should it be decently firm (holding its shape more-or-less when put on the plate and being able hold a depression where you can put gravy) or closer to runny (spreading out on the plate and the gravy mixes with it rather than staying separate)?
And apart from potatoes (and salt + pepper), what goes into good mashed potatoes?

:autistic_lurker: Yay, new emoji day!
For the times when you can't/don't want to word, but want to let people know that you're here. Like spending a day in the same room with your bestie, without saying another word to them, jut being together.
It's called "autistic lurker" =)
