I agree with all of that.
As someone expecting societal collapse by 2040 (hence my hashtag #Collapse2040), I am always looking at the longer term effects and what I need to do to mitigate the risk. I'm resisting stuffing 10's of thousands of pounds into mattresses as somewhat impractical and a serious risk in it's own right.
Probably what I should do is put the money into a property with enough land to grow enough food to be self-sufficient, a well for water, and a house with a large south-facing roof so I can install a goodly amount of solar.
Another part of me says that I'm retired and in 2040, if the expected societal #collapse has happened by then, I probably don't want to be around to live through the trauma (armed and hungry thugs wanting to steal the food I am growing for example).
So I procrastinate and do nothing.
