I'd like to try melatonin and see what it's like not to wake up at 4am every day.
But I saw my GP 10 months ago and she said "gynaecology will be in touch", and I haven't heard a damn thing.
So is there any point in trying?

@miffyhelen I know you've probably tried everything already, but is there any chance that it's your bladder waking you at 4:00 am (something I'm not unfamiliar with since my surgery 😕), or perhaps an outside trigger noise like a neighbour who slams the car door leaving for an early shift at work, or even just your furnace or A/C going on? There might be other ways to work around them.
Regardless, best of luck!

@david_megginson I think it's just my body that hates me! I do all the things they tell me to. No screens before bed, no food, no strenuous exercise but maybe light stretching, no caffeine many hours before bed, black out blinds, a quiet neighborhood, going to bed at the same time each day, getting up at the same time, and I use meditation and sleep stories to try and fall asleep again.
I have no problem falling asleep. But I always wake up 4-5 hours later. Like clockwork!

@miffyhelen It sounds frustrating. Have you tried a cheap floor fan on low/rotate? I find that the white noise and light breeze sometimes give me an OK sleep. YMMV.
(Weirdly, for me, caffeine seems to make no difference; sometimes I even sleep better when I drink tea an hour before bed. 🤷♂️)

@david_megginson @miffyhelen I was about to suggest that it might be due to the L-theanine in tea, but I just double-checked and it appears The European Food Safety Authority now says there's insufficient evidence for a causal relationship between theanine consumption maintenance of normal sleep!
Nevertheless, I too find tea helps me sleep. Perhaps it's psychological?

@ApostateEnglishman Older British novels often mention having tea before bed. Maybe it's just a weird genetic mutation in people with British Isles ancestry, like finding marmalade tasty (mmm — bitter fruit-peel jam! 🙂)

@david_megginson @ApostateEnglishman as an English person, I fully support the idea that I actually I need more tea in my life 😁
