"Everyone is failing! Someone must _______ immediately!"
Comrade I don't know how to tell you this in a non-asshole way, but "someone" is you. That's where we're at. Find people doing the work you want to see and help them.

So when you wrote earlier, "that someone is never going to be me"?
I guess I can subsequently infer and take you at your word:
You are also incapable of conveying something in a non-asshole way?
That's a shame. I've read voluminous amounts of your writing. I have to believe you are capable of better.
Do you only dine out and never cook meals for yourself and expect others to always do your gardening too?
Because I've also worked as a chef and gardened since I was a child, long before I self hosted email servers and long before I was invited to host email and other services for others and did that for many YEARS before anyone paid so much as a pittance for any of that.
You wrote some time ago about tech co-ops.
Do you know any who are hiring and pay a livable wage?
Because I still apply for jobs and grants and just received another rejection email from the time I replied to your last toot until this one.
You claim you want solutions, to solved problems, shared freely (I'm a maintainer of OpenSMTPD in MacPorts to make it easier for folks who are on Macs instead of OpenBSD for example).
Yet you seem incapable of acknowledging that individuals such as I, who have been "doing the work" for decades, may have some material and human needs?
Work on that.
Find a way to be helpful, instead of sub tooting in an asshole way?
Just an idea!

@teajaygrey Edited bc I realized you're actually referring to my "never going to be me" statement that I'm not going to self-host my email.
And indeed I am not! I am going to pay a service. Which is completely fine.
You've been putting some real intense feelings into my replies today, including to my question about what email providers people like. I do not myself have a job lead for you, but hope you can get the support you need.

@kissane There is plenty of work to be done that's local to you, wherever you are. Families are under siege from EO's and regulation/enforcement changes. Feed someone. Give them a safe place to be. Lobby your local government to make resources available. Run for school board. Not all of us are extroverts and capable of organizing or demonstrating. But all those activities need minions to do the dog-work.

@jbaggs @kissane @earth2marsh Indeed.
Especially since no one can do it all, letting someone else take care of something so that you can focus your efforts elsewhere is wise, fine and good.
Probably even necessary, especially when there is this much to be done.

@kissane Physically, I am limited. Im writing my representatives daily. Can you recommend organizations that I can donate $$ to which will have the most immediate effects? I've got ACLU covered.

@rspfau If you can call your reps, that’s better than emailing, though I hear e-faxing is also good, which is wild. And postcards are great.
My own donations are almost entirely to orgs and people focused on reproductive & trans healthcare and refugee & immigrant defense but everyone will have their own priorities there. It all helps, I think.
Internet Archive has ways to help archive gov data from your local machine, which is cool.

@kissane @rspfau just popping in to add that in many cases, a certified letter gets a lot of attention. YMMV but this is especially true of older reps in my experience. If you are able to get to a post office to make that happen, it works surprisingly well for not a lot of extra money.

I'm not even in the USA rn and this same thing is making my blood boil. I saw a FB convo on my partner's phone - back and forth and back and forth, angry that "no-one is doing anything", "no-one is speaking out for us", "someone should form a party that..." etc etc etc... it's like some crucial step of "you are now the grown up" didn't happen.
