I just prepped Hopey's evening medicated meatball, but she just stayed in her bed. Hand delivered her some crunchies which she did eat, but I've been remembering the last time we tried meds for her hyperthyroid, which made her very lethargic and even made her white fur turn yellow when she didn't feel the urge to use the litterbox.

After a bit of a nap, we both got up. I heard her use the litterbox, but wasn't sure where she went after that. Feeling a little desperate, I offered some nip, to which she chirped a bit and enjoyed. Then she hung out in her tunnel for a bit, then I heard her eat her crunchies. Then she hopped up onto my bed by herself, which always makes me happy. So things are good. :)

She's had some crunchies this morning. We're currently back in/on my bed, big napping mood. I'll call the vet tomorrow.

My mom came over with some different wet food, which the kitty ate, but not the crushed pill at the bottom of the bowl. She's apparently onto the trick.

Just made an appointment at the vet's in a couple hours. Crunchies offered last night have not been eaten, nor this morning's wet food.
Time to get dressed, I s'pose.

I called the vet back and gave them some more info about the last time she was on a med for the hyperthyroid--lethargy, yellowing fur. Now waiting for a call back from the doc.
The crunchies have now been eaten, so that's good news. We'll get through this.

It's been a few hours since the dr called me back. For now I'll go back to giving Hopey the special prescription food and we'll see how she is at her follow-up appt next week. Thanks for all the supportive notes. 😻

Hope ate very little, if anything, today, but is semi-active—i.e., makes some sounds, let Dad rub her tummy when he brought me home from chorale rehearsal. I'm expecting a check-in call from the vet tomorrow or the next day.
I left rehearsal about 20 mins early because I was worried about the kitty and it was turning into a spiral. Mom had given Dad some tasty lemon cookies for me though, which was a nice little treat.

Talked to the vet around half an hour ago. We have an appt for bloodwork this afternoon. I'm just anxious and trying to coordinate work responsibilities around this.

Got home ~half an hour ago with meds to stimulate her appetite. She's currently in her bed in the kitchen. I'm just letting some cello music wash over me.

I heard her nosing around her bowl of crunchies around half an hour ago. From the ~10 kibbles that were there, she might have eaten three, but it's something.
The info on the stimulant says that one of the side effects is vocalizing. yes, I can attest that it is. Hopey is usually a pretty quiet girl, at least with me, so the random meowing when she's wandering around is a little disconcerting.

I'm scared.
Mom came over tonight to give Hopey a second dose of appetite stimulant. Hopey took it, but threw up shortly afterward. We tried some different offerings of food, even scrambled egg, and she wasn't interested. Also, the yellowing of her fur has apparently spread beyond just on her tummy.
I'm expecting a call from the doc tomorrow, and I'm scared of what options are left. (1/2)

I keep thinking of how my cat's name is Hope, and losing her this week feels too on-the-nose. (2/2)

We went to the emergency vet this morning. Since she's not keeping even water down, we've decided it's best to say goodbye. We're currently at home--I want to try for at least one more cuddle--and I'll set up a time with the at-home vet for tonight or tomorrow. 😿 😻

About 45 mins ago she went and had a big drink from a water dish, and I think is keeping it down. 😄

It's been a tough day. Tomorrow afternoon we'll say our last goodbye.
I'm scared about the future after she's gone—petting and cuddling her has been a real anchor for me in stressful times over the past 7 years—but I know it's the right decision since she won't eat. (1/2)

Tonight my twin best friends came over for hugs and to say goodbye to Hopey. It's also helped to talk to her directly: telling her how much I love her and what a good friend she's been, reminiscing about the good times we had together. (2/2)

Mom and I are both having second thoughts, because Hopey jumped in the bathtub like she used to do. It seems she's fighting back...we want another opinion. I've called the at-home vet to cancel today's appt.

Good signs:
-Hopey spent a few minutes just now drinking drips from the bathtub faucet by catching them in her paw and licking it
-She has not made the horrible gagging sounds since we made the decision to cancel today's appointment
-She gave some normal sounding meows for the first time in several days
As I told Mom--who is staying overnight to help with observation--"I did not name this cat Hope for nothing."

We just found Hopey hiding in the guest room closet; fortunately that's where her spare bed stays. She hasn't touched any of the food we left out and can only keep water down half the time, so in a few hours I'll try to make an at-home vet appointment for Monday. Will spend today loving on her and talking to her.

Hopey is now at peace. I was able to have her on my lap as she drifted off, and I found it so comforting and peaceful. Now I don't have to be worried that she won't eat, or on alert for awful sounds, or wonder where she is when she isn't in arm's reach.
I'm going to try for a nap now. Thank you to all who have followed along and sent love and support this past week.
