Hope ate very little, if anything, today, but is semi-active—i.e., makes some sounds, let Dad rub her tummy when he brought me home from chorale rehearsal. I'm expecting a check-in call from the vet tomorrow or the next day.

I left rehearsal about 20 mins early because I was worried about the kitty and it was turning into a spiral. Mom had given Dad some tasty lemon cookies for me though, which was a nice little treat.

Today's evasion of the news included reading book #3 in almost one sitting.

When Haru Was Here, by Dustin Thao. A gay young man of Vietnamese descent dealing with grief, not always in the most constructive ways. CW for alcohol, grief, death of loved ones. I bought the audiobook because the narrator is one of the voice actors on my favorite D&D podcast, Encounter Party! (encounterparty.com) #StarryReads2025

It's been a few hours since the dr called me back. For now I'll go back to giving Hopey the special prescription food and we'll see how she is at her follow-up appt next week. Thanks for all the supportive notes. 😻

I called the vet back and gave them some more info about the last time she was on a med for the hyperthyroid--lethargy, yellowing fur. Now waiting for a call back from the doc.

The crunchies have now been eaten, so that's good news. We'll get through this.

Just made an appointment at the vet's in a couple hours. Crunchies offered last night have not been eaten, nor this morning's wet food.

Time to get dressed, I s'pose.

My mom came over with some different wet food, which the kitty ate, but not the crushed pill at the bottom of the bowl. She's apparently onto the trick.

She's had some crunchies this morning. We're currently back in/on my bed, big napping mood. I'll call the vet tomorrow.

After a bit of a nap, we both got up. I heard her use the litterbox, but wasn't sure where she went after that. Feeling a little desperate, I offered some nip, to which she chirped a bit and enjoyed. Then she hung out in her tunnel for a bit, then I heard her eat her crunchies. Then she hopped up onto my bed by herself, which always makes me happy. So things are good. :)

I just prepped Hopey's evening medicated meatball, but she just stayed in her bed. Hand delivered her some crunchies which she did eat, but I've been remembering the last time we tried meds for her hyperthyroid, which made her very lethargic and even made her white fur turn yellow when she didn't feel the urge to use the litterbox.

Just finished my second book of the year: Non-Player Character by @vicorva. A TTRPG party are mysteriously transported to the world of their game, along with a small child, and need to find their way home. Great characters, some cute critters, and even some romance.

Rating: 5 stars

Welp, I DNF'd my first attempt at a book for the #PolymathReadingChallenge. It was Jan Swafford's biography of Beethoven, which was enlightening—pun not intended, but hehe—but between its length (1,100+ pages or 39 hrs of audio), the narrator's pronunciations, and how into the weeds Swafford went with describing works, it was becoming a bit of a slog. I have other, shorter, music history books to choose from, though probably not the Mozart bio by the same author.

Uh-oh...my current #audiobook's narrator just pronounced odysseus as "o-DISH-us." Hardly the first mispronounce of the book--it's a Beethoven bio and the narrator does his best with the German, but doesn't know that Italian "ch" makes a K sound. This one was very surprising though.

This morning I shared with my therapist about the self-harm incidence I mentioned a few days back. As I was listening to some music this evening, an unexpectedly dark song came on out of nowhere. I looked up the song on Wikipedia and apparently it was (once) banned on a partcular radio station after 10pm for fear of suicide risk. (2/2)

Stressful couple of days. Yesterday I started Hopey on some new meds for her hyperthyroid. The process of this is fairly easy so far, but it's a new routine and it'll take some time for me to get used to it.

Work has been busy again, which yay, but also oof. (1/2)
