Continuing my start-of-the-year clean-up project tradition (for last year's project see https://chaos.social/@foosel/111687404140972445).
Today I tackled the hallway shelf and the built-in closet. Filled up several garbage bags once more. Ouch, my back 😅
I also decided to throw out my first 3d printer that was still stored in the closet, as much as it saddens me. It's no longer working & it's taking up too much space for that. But I'll keep the front plate & Pi 😊
No before pictures for you bw - too embarrassing 😬

Also, in case you are wondering about the two chairs...
Those are two out of the four chairs that belong to my dinner table. The other two are on one long side of the table, while the other lomg side is taken up by an office chair as that is the spot my partner uses when working from home office from my place.
The two chairs are easier to store in the hallway than the office chair, so this is the default 😅

The eye cooperated thanks to eye drops and so now the old Ultimaker is fully dismantled and everything I could no longer see any use for is in the bin or the box of electronics to get to recycling.
But I kept the front plate, Arduino Mega & shield, Pi1 & SD and the hobbed gear and have ordered a presentation frame that will fit all of that to be mounted in my office 😊
Layout will probably be something like the picture.

I've now mounted the front plate and electronics of my first 3d printer into a frame and given it a place of honour in my office. The printer with which everything OctoPrint started. The printer that literally changed my life.
I think that's a good way to keep it in memory without it taking up too much space.

@foosel This is so cool! 😍
What's the part left of the sd card?
=> More informations about this toot | More toots from fleaz@chaos.social
@fleaz The hobbed gear (or rather bolt) used in the extruder for gripping the filament and moving it forward. You don't see things like that anymore these days ^^

@foosel Sorry! 🙈😅

@foosel @fleaz I think there's a good reason we don't see them anymore 😅

@foosel so you made the 3d printer a little more 2d?
=> More informations about this toot | More toots from climbertobby@chaos.social
@climbertobby Yep, and ironically it's hung up above the paper printer ^^

@foosel I miss Ultimaker so much. They were fast. The kinematics were clever. They were very reliable. I still find Prusaslicer on the XL clunky compared to Cura on the UM3. I really wish Ultimaker kept the community focus like Prusa has.
I might do a shadowbox of mine like you have.

@foosel that's really cool!
My first machine from 2012 is... Still printing. It really feels like it on its last legs though.

@bracken That Ultimaker was from 2012 as well. I retired it a few years ago though, it got increasingly difficult to get my hands on 2.85mm filament and playing with blue tape on a cold acrylic bed also got old fast 😅

@foosel I really do miss the laser cut wood 3D printers, Printrbot especially.
Even after years of printing, you could still get a whiff of that slightly burnt wood.

@dutchbarracuda When I dismantled that 12 year old printer, my hands smelled like I'd been in a smokehouse afterwards 😂
I still got a laser cut Printrbot Simple in the basement, including the box, all fully varnished with a cherry wood look. Not sure what to do with it tbh.

I can not put in words how much I like that idea and how "fuzzy warm nostalgic mixed with intrinsic motivation" this makes me feel. Thank you for sharing.

@foosel I’m currently reviving my Mendel90 which I haven’t used for almost 12 years. Used OctoPrint for first movement tests. Have to update firmware and calibrate next

@foosel oh that is so nice, thanks for the idea ! Will do the same ! That could make a small gallery of past machines to display :D

@foosel It is beautiful! By the way, what printer(s) are you using at the moment?
=> More informations about this toot | More toots from M4x@chaos.social
@M4x A heavily modified early Prusa MK3 and recently I also added a QiDi Q1 Pro.
