Ha!! Look at what I found in an old box at my parents' home :meowAmused:

Unfortunately, the electroshock machine Game Gear is completely broken beyond repair. The Game Boy screen has some blown out pixel columns, but at least it still works. :shrugz:

BTW, is there anything a clumsy user like me can do to improve the condition of the Game Boy screen (without breaking it more, that is)?

@cinnamon Yes there is, you can slide a soldering iron across the contacts. There are tutorials on the Internet. It requires a bit of disassembly but I have done it and it did not feel as being too risky - carefulness required, yes, but it wasn't something I felt being above what a normal person could do

@cinnamon the gamegear should be fine with a recapping of the board assuming the capacitors didn't leak that badly. don't give up on it immediately. the gameboy has many things that can be done to it. mods are plentiful for both consoles in fact, and even glass lenses to remove the scratched plastic ones.

you're about to find out about a whole world out there of mods. the gameboy has so many mods for quality of life it's not funny.

@cinnamon @Wintermute_BBS the horizontal line issue is relatively easy to fix, it is almost always about the connection between the lcd screen and the board.

You would need to open it up and reflow the connector by passing a soldering iron on top of it.

I have revived two Game Boys with this issue.

If you don’t feel comfortable with that, you could try to place a small piece of cardboard between the connector and the case to increase the pressure but it is a hit an miss.
